As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will interact with other team members representing a wide range of disciplines to develop complex Electro-Optical Systems. You will work with customers to define system requirements and operating concepts, develop the systems architecture to meet the requirements, and guide the design team to execute the systems architecture.Position is hybrid on site (Tuesday through Thursday).What You Will Do
Interface with Customers and Stakeholders to understand their needs and constraints and review customer specifications and requirementsGenerate consistent, complete, correct, and operationally defined highest level system requirements, including cost requirementsPerform trade studies, performance analysis, and cost-benefit analyses to determine the best means to meet the system requirementsPartition the system into subsystems and components, and document component and subsystem specifications and material requirementsLead design engineers to ensure a robust implementation of the system architecture that meets schedule, cost, and performance requirementsPrepare and present proposals, technical reports, position papers, and reviews (both internal and external) as neededProvide budget, cost and schedule input for design assignmentsInteract with technical management, other professionals, technicians and support personnel to coordinate, recommend and confer regarding technical activities and progress.Qualifications
Master of Science Degree in Physics or Engineering (BS Degree in Physics or Engineering is acceptable with additional years of relevant experience)10 years minimum experience including 5 years minimum as a System Engineer and/or Systems ArchitectExperience in electro-optical system design for high-performance imaging systemsExperience in testing of electro-optical systems ranging from visible through long wave infraredIntegration of multi-sensor payloads including allocation of manufacturing tolerances for design for manufacturabilityExperience with performance modeling for electro-optical systemsUnderstanding of mechanical, electrical, and optical designs and components, and their interactions in visual and infrared imaging systemsAdditional Desirable Qualifications
Strong technical writing skills for reports, proposals, and technical specificationsUnderstanding of infrared detector materials, and device operation and modelingUnderstanding of optical materials and fabrication techniques, including optical coatingsFamiliarity with optical test and characterization equipmentFamiliarity with infrared lasers, with emphasis on those used for rangefinders and target designatorsAbility to understand and review component and system level drawingsFamiliarity with modeling software like NV-IPM, NVTherm and ModtranFamiliarity with DOORSU.S. Citizenship required.
