This exciting role of Project Engineer is a 9-12-month entry-level position designed to expose the employee to McKenney’s processes, capabilities, and scope of work before moving into a role in the Logistics & Manufacturing department.POSITION SUMMARYAs a Project Engineer, you will be placed into a 12-month rotational program where you will support various departments involved in the life cycle of a construction project. During these rotations, you will participate in McKenney’s preconstruction, design, virtual construction, fabrication, project management, and installation phases of a project, as well as the technology processes involved. By the conclusion of the program, Project Engineers will have gained exposure to our business, developed strong leadership skills, established impactful relationships, and expanded their knowledge and understanding of the construction industry.Learning objectives in this role include, but are not limited to, the detailing of mechanical systems (ductwork, mechanical piping, and plumbing); coordinating McKenney’s work with customers and other trades through the BIM process; estimating projects; interacting with our suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors; and working in the field as part of an installation crew. In addition to this training, we expect the Project Engineer to develop strong relationships with project managers, foreman, virtual construction team members, field operations, engineers, suppliers, and other trade sub-contractors through consistent interaction and communication.Throughout their rotations, the Project Engineer will work with their sponsor in Logistics and Manufacturing to identify logistics, supply chain operations, manufacturing, technology, and project management career opportunities after finishing the program. These opportunities will be based on candidate interest and business need, and include, but are not limited to, roles involving expanding purchasing support to all business units or providing project management support of manufacturing operations.BASIC QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, building construction, or supply chain management, or minimum 5+ years experience working with plumbing, piping, or HVAC systems in an office or the fieldMust have PC experience in Windows environments, working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, Web-enabled applications, and database softwarePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree in industrial engineeringDemonstrated successful experience in the construction industryExperience with SmartsheetStrong Business Acumen (entrepreneurship counts)Leadership exposure (conferences, training, etc.)KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND CHARACTERISTICSStrong leadership skills, self-motivation, and the ability to respond quickly to changing customer demandsProductive time management to maximize efficiency and meet challenging work goalsAbility to succeed both independently and collaboratively in a team environmentStrong attention to detail and prioritization of company needs to maximize profitabilityEffective communication across a diverse group of people (PMs, drafting, field staff, fabrication shops, etc.)Solid reasoning, math, science, and technical skillsReadiness to take on additional responsibilities as needed and independently manage prioritiesExceptional work ethic and project ownershipIntegrity to uphold company values and demand the highest standards of conduct from self and othersPersistence to attain results under adverse circumstances and conflictWORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORTWork is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment.Work will require construction job site visits.
