The Duke School of Medicine’s Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities & History of Medicine was founded in 1999 with the mission to develop interdisciplinary educational and research programs in clinical and research ethics, the history of medicine, and the social and cultural aspects of medicine.

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

Collaborate with Trent Center Director on strategic planning, programming, and development; Ensure effective implementation, administration and communication of Trent Center activities.

WORK PERFORMED

Coordinate and participate in strategic planning efforts with Center Director and faculty to determine Center goals, objectives, and plans for ongoing programs.

Work with Center Director on faculty recruitment and identification of faculty associates.

Establish and maintain ongoing relationships with Medical Center Development office and current donors.

Direct communications efforts to ensure that the Center’s mission, events and achievements are effectively communicated.

Serve as Business Manager for the Center. Prepare Center budgets and determine fiscal requirements on both a short and long-range basis.

Oversee the planning and implementation of public events and educational programs.

Supervise and coordinate work of designated program and administrative employees.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Work requires a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree; Master’s or advanced degree preferred.

Experience

Work requires a minimum of eight years of experience with progressively increasing responsibilities in financial administration, program planning and communications in, or applicable to, an academic setting.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Work requires a general business background generally equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a business-related field.

Experience

Work requires 4 years related business or administrative experience to acquire competence in applying general personnel practices, accounting and budgeting principles and coordination of major administrative functions.

A master's degree in a business-related field may be substituted for 2 years experience.

OR ANY OTHER EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
