About the job: Responsible for the daily care, operation, and maintenance of beef cattle, sheep, and goats, with occasional dairy cattle and swine duties.
Key tasks include animal feeding, health monitoring, record-keeping, and providing hands-on guidance to students. Duties involve breeding, treatment, and assisting with veterinarian procedures (castration, hoof trimming, etc.). Additional responsibilities include fence maintenance, pest control, facility sanitation, and equipment operation and repair.
The role requires coordinating animal care with academic needs, managing Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) animal records and protocols, and overseeing student workers within the Animal Science program.
What you'll need:High school graduation or equivalent and three years of related experience in animal care, including an understanding of cattle, sheep, and goat breeding and care; OR high school graduate with a combination of related academic coursework and applicable work experience totaling three years.Ability to occasionally lift up to 75 lbsAbility to work variable hours and days depending on animal needs and the needs of academic programsPossession of a valid drivers licenseAbility to read, write, and understand EnglishThe final job offer is contingent upon a complete background check.Preferred, but not required:Bachelors degree in animal science or a related fieldDemonstrated experience working with farm animalsDemonstrated experience with equipment operation (skid steer, tractor, truck/trailer)
Work environment: Onsite
Salary: 40 hours a week, $22.17 per hour
