Position descriptionTwo postdoctoral positions are open for driven individuals within Dr. Ambre Bertholet's laboratory at UCLA's Department of Physiology. The successful candidates will work as part of an interdisciplinary research team in the laboratory of Dr. Ambre Bertholet's Lab in the UCLA Department of Physiology, School of Medicine.
The focus of the Bertholet Lab is on the molecular mechanisms responsible for mitochondrial energy distribution, with a particular interest in mitochondrial thermogenesis. By employing the novel mitochondrial patch-clamp assay combined with modern cellular and molecular techniques, the Bertholet Lab will provide new insights into the mechanisms that control mitochondrial bioenergetics for therapeutic purposes. Projects may include but are not limited to interrogating mechanisms of mitochondrial thermogenesis in brown and beige fat, understanding mitochondrial energy distribution in non-adipose tissues such as heart and liver, and discovering new tools to control mitochondrial functioning.
Responsibilities:
Depending on their background, each appointee will be actively involved in multiple projects/publications, immersing themselves in one of the leading institutions for biomedical research globally, while learning and exercising skills in biophysics, biochemistry, mitochondrial biology research, and metabolism.
The appointees will also have the opportunity to strengthen their leadership and collaboration skills by writing fellowships, assisting with grants and interacting with prospective graduate and undergraduate students.
Qualifications:
1)
A recent doctorate degree in the field of biophysics, biochemistry, neuroscience, biomedical sciences, or related disciplines.
2)
Ability to work in teams and highly collaborative and inclusive environments, and strong work ethics.
