Linux HPC Cluster Systems Administrator

ResponsibilitiesPeraton is hiring a Linux High Performance Computing Cluster Systems Administrator. This position is a full-time role on-site in West Bethesda, MD, directly supporting Naval Surface Warfare Center engineers and scientists in submarine acoustic signatures research using high performance computing platforms.
The Linux High Performance Computing Cluster System Administrator position includes the following responsibilities:
Maintains smooth operation and high availability of multi-user Linux workstation and cluster computer systems, including coordination with network engineers and cybersecurity administrators.
Monitors and manages system resources, including CPU usage, disk usage, network infrastructure, and response times to maintain operating efficiency.
Performs systems security administration functions, including patching operating systems and software, updating cybersecurity virus definition files, and creating user profiles and accounts.
Other duties may include setting up administrator accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software, and allocating mass storage space.
Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products.
Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation, and provides backup recovery.
Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.
Utilizes tools such as WareWulf and SLURM for cluster and workload management.
Occasional travel ( QualificationsWhat you'll need:
5 years with BS/BA; 3 years with MS/MA; 0 years with PhD or HS Diploma and 9 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
3 years hands-on experience administering UNIX/Linux servers, workstations, and associated peripherals (particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux).
U.S. citizenship required to obtain DoD Secret security clearance.
Must hold one of the following certifications: CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, or SSCP.
Must be able to demonstrate proficiency with maintaining performance, availability, and security of Linux cluster computing environments including system builds and configuration, file and account management, software installation, automation/scripting, patching, and security management.
Desired Qualifications:
College degree in Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related Information Technology field.
Candidate should be able to provide examples of ability to interact and communicate across organizational staffing levels and clearly present and convey technical information through both oral and written means.
Ability to administer or manage virtual environments (particularly VMware) and/or AWS environments is a plus.

Target Salary Range$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
