Sponsored Programs OfficeSummary:The Lead Sponsored Programs Pre-Award staff oversees all activities related to sponsored programs, focusing on proposal preparation and submission while ensuring compliance with sponsor requirements, university policies, and applicable regulations. This role involves directly supporting Principal Investigators in proposal submissions, identifying potential risks and ensuring adherence to guidelines at all levels.Responsibilities:Lead sponsored programs pre-award staff regarding all sponsored programs activities, including proposal preparation and submission processes and ensuring compliance with sponsor requirements as well as applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.Participate directly in supporting Principal Investigators in the submission of proposals regularly on an as-needed basis.Identify risks and liabilities when reviewing proposals and sponsor criteria, ensuring compliance with university policies as well as federal and state laws and sponsored guidelines.Review and approve proposals and budgets for submission, assuring compliance with university policies, federal, state, and sponsor guidelines.Lead staff serving as a liaison between departments and other entities including companies, governmental agencies, non-profit entities, and universities in the submission of sponsored project proposals.Develop and implement policies that ensure university compliance with a range of regulations and policies relating to proposal processing.Support development and implementation of policies related to negotiation of funding instruments such as grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements and post-award finance issues.Counsel, advise, and assist faculty and staff with proposal and budget development for externally funded projects.Provide guidance and mentoring to departmental staff regarding university procedures in all aspects of proposal submission processes to external sponsors.Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in university continuous improvement initiatives.Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.Required Education, Certifications, Licensures:• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.Required Experience:• Four (4) years’ experience in preparing, administering, and/or managing sponsored project proposals in a research setting.Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:• Familiarity with the Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (aka 2 CFR 200 or Uniform Guidance)• Strong verbal and written communication skills.Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:Demonstrated success in, or potential future contributions to, working with persons from diverse backgrounds, creating a sense of belonging, and fostering a fair, objective, welcoming place to work for persons with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints.Work Environment and/or Physical Demands:Required Training and Other Conditions of Employment:Every employee at Michigan Technological University will receive the following 4 required trainings; additional training may be required by the department.Required University Training:• Employee Safety Overview• Annual Data Security Training• Annual Title IX TrainingOffers of employment are contingent upon and not considered finalized until the required background check has been performed and the results received and assessed.Other Conditions of Employment:Please note that successful applicants are responsible for ensuring their eligibility to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the United States, a lawful permanent resident, a foreign national authorized to work in the United States without the need of an employer sponsorship) on or before the effective date of your appointment, and maintain eligibility without sponsorship throughout your appointment.Posting Type:
