Health & RecreationPosition OverviewThe Associate Director of Programs for Recreation & Wellness will report to the Director of Recreation & Wellness and oversee program administration for Club Sports, Intramurals, and Fitness, ensuring alignment with departmental goals. This position will directly supervise two full-time employees dedicated to these areas. The Associate Director will guide staff in delivering high-quality, engaging, and safe programs that enhance the student experience, foster campus involvement, and ensure effective risk management practices are in place across all programs. This position is expected to support the mission and goals of Recreation & Wellness and the Division of Student Affairs through effective program leadership and collaboration.ResponsibilitiesOversee the administration, development, and execution of recreational programs, ensuring alignment with university policies and best practices in sports administration.Directly supervise and support two full-time staff members overseeing Club Sports, Intramurals, and Fitness.Provide leadership for program areas and work in concert with Enrollment Management to support its growth and success on campus as a strategic enrollment priority.Manage program budgets, ensuring financial sustainability and responsible use of resources.Develop initiatives to increase student participation in club sports, intramurals, and fitness, emphasizing their role in the student experience.Promote a positive and inclusive environment that supports student engagement and participation.Identify emerging trends and innovative practices in club sports and risk management to increase engagement and safety.Facilitate training and development opportunities for student leaders, focusing on leadership, safety, and risk management.Ensure all programs adhere to health and safety guidelines, risk management protocols, and legal regulations.Ensure all programs are effectively marketed and communicated to the target audience.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Sports Administration, Exercise Science, or a related field.Minimum of 3 years of experience in recreation program management, preferably in a higher education setting.Proven experience in staff supervision, program assessment, and strategic planning with strong leadership and interpersonal skills.Knowledge of current trends and best practices in club sports, intramurals, and fitness.Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree in Recreation Management, Sports Administration, Higher Education, Risk Management, or a related field.5+ years of experience in recreation program management, preferably in higher education.Advanced certifications related to risk management or sports administration, such as Certified Sports Administration (CSA) or certifications from NIRSA or American Red Cross.Expertise in program assessment and improvement, with the ability to use data to inform decision making and enhance student participation and satisfaction.About ButlerButler University is a private, nationally recognized comprehensive university encompassing seven colleges: Arts, Business, Communication, Education, Liberal Arts & Sciences, Pharmacy & Health Sciences and Founder's College.
