Reporting to the Creative Director, you will lead a team of designers to transform and elevate Klein Tools’ physical and retail presence and packaging capabilities to improve our brand and product positioning to existing and new consumer communities.Under strategic guidance of the Creative Director and as the Subject Matter Expert on all things package design, you will drive the ongoing evolution of packaging guidelines, design systems, and best practices to deliver excellence and consistency of output, enabling speed-to-market product launch and brand initiatives delivered to the highest standards under strict quality control.Help grow the Klein Tools’ package design function and capabilities, contributing to the development and continued evolution of overall brand guidelines while driving the development and implementation for packaging design.Lead from the front with hands-on management and production of on-time delivery of packaging design across the broad range of Klein Tools product line, encompassing dielines of varying specs.Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment, coaching senior and junior designers on design fundamentals, print processes, color theory, strategies for consistency and efficiency, inspire team confidence to develop a bench of highly skilled and empowered designers with an ownership mindset.Lead package design strategy sessions in collaboration with integrated and product marketing teams to drive strict consistency in the visual communication of product features and specs across the entire line of Klein Tools products – ensuring proactive planning workflows to develop packaging output that has an impactful role as one of the final steps in the holistic consumer journey.Review and approve all package design work, providing actionable feedback and maintaining high standards of quality, consistency and creativity in alignment with brand guidelines and best practices. Understand that delivering clear feedback on a single piece of work is an opportunity for a step towards autonomy for the reviewee; ensure feedback is articulated accordingly.Drive deep cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders across the industrial design, product engineering and product management teams – understanding the roadmap of Klein Tools future product launches to ensure proper planning and sustained consistency and quality.In collaboration with other internal creative leads, partner with external agencies as needed to ensure visual design excellence and on-time product launches.Job QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field.5+ years of graphic design experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial or lead role.Strong portfolio demonstrating innovative and strategic package design work at scale and across various product lines under a single brand.Confidence with a high level of autonomy. Transparent and decisive. Proactive and intentional communicator – deliberate with who to engage and when, and how that streamline your pipeline and increases clarity and speed.High attention to detail and accuracy with a vigilant commitment to consistently delivering precise, high-quality output that strengthens and supports the cohesion of the Klein Tools brand.An expert level understanding of typographic hierarchy, layout and the visual communication of complex information within small spaces. This does not frustrate you but rather presents the next puzzle to solve, and you nurture this philosophy within your beam.An expert level ability to adapt information across outputs of varying sizes, specs and 2D/3D shapes while being vigilant in maintaining consistency of brand cohesion and quality.An understanding of how to develop, refine and deploy a design system within packaging, and how to maintain, evaluate and update package design system and guidelines.An expert level understanding of color processes for print. A fundamental understanding of how various materials and finishes may inform decisions and adjustments.High sense of urgency - captaining a package design and delivery pipeline across multiple product launches with different Product Managers simultaneously, prioritizing and ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project objectives and requirements.Proficiency in all pertinent design software and tech stack (Adobe Suite, project management platforms, display color calibration and profiles, proofing, etc).Ability to coach and lead a design team while fostering a collaborative, proactive, efficient and high-quality work environment. You maintain a culture of growth and momentum.Physical Demand RequirementsOccasionally required to stand, walk or sit; use hands to grasp, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; use fingers to touch, pick or pinch objects; reach with hands and arms; push or pull; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; use foot or leg controls; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. For all jobs no one should lift over 50lbs on their own.
