U.S. based Talcott Resolution and Bermuda and Cayman based Talcott Re.This position is required to be hybrid in our Hartford, CT office 3 days per weekWhen applying, please attach your SOA transcript.Overview:About Talcott Financial Group’s Actuarial Student ProgramOur program fosters leadership skills while supporting employees’ progress towards attainment of Fellowship with the Society of Actuaries (FSA). Employees within the Actuarial Student Program rotate across the company in roles of 12-18 months duration, affording diverse learning experiences and opportunities to take on impactful projects. Rotations cover all product lines and include actuarial functions such as Predictive Modeling, Pricing, Valuation, Asset Liability Management, Forecasting, Enterprise Risk Management, and Investment Management. The program is managed by a committee of actuarial leaders, including our Chief Actuary, that actively mentor and support students. Talcott looks towards the Actuarial Student Program for our next generation of Actuarial leaders.

Attaining Professional DesignationsStudents are expected to complete at least one component of the FSA pathway every 18 months. Program support includes:Covering the cost of exam fees, module fees, and study materials such as textbooks, study manuals, and online courses;Generous paid study time for exams and modules; andA community of individuals studying together.In addition to competitive company benefits, students receive raises for passing exams and first-time pass bonuses. Students that attain their ASA and FSA designations are also eligible for awards. Promotions are based on job performance and exam progress.

Career and Leadership DevelopmentThe Actuarial Student Program is committed to developing well-rounded Actuarial leaders. Many opportunities supplement rotational on-the-job training and technical knowledge gained through the FSA pathway. Opportunities include:Training courses focused on critical soft skills, such as business writing, negotiation techniques, and managerial skills;Student speaker series to develop presentation skills;Access to the Society of Actuaries’ webinars and events; andSupporting our community through volunteer events.Leadership roles for senior students are encouraged and include management, recruiting, interviewing, teaching courses, and representing Talcott at industry events.

Primary Responsibilities:Day-to-day responsibilities depend upon the rotational assignment. The initial rotation for this role will be within our new retail annuity pricing function. Two additional sample rotations are outlined below:Actuarial Projections RotationAdvanced ALM and risk management modeling in AXIS for Talcott’s investment-oriented businesses.Maintain and enhance the AXIS modeling system.Develop and implement portfolio strategies and tactics in partnership with investments, financial, operations, and the pricing units.Cash Flow Testing, C3P1, Outlook, Capital Attribution, Liquidity Analysis.Preparing the CFT memorandum and corresponding exhibits to be incorporated into the Chief Actuary’s annual CFT and C3 Phase 1 memorandum.Actuarial Modeling RotationPerform model changes to implement acquisitions, refinements, new features, and functionality.Support quarterly valuation and outlook reporting with detailed model knowledge and analysis.Perform model governance activities (including peer reviews and documentation) to ensure an adequately controlled model.Opportunities to support the modeling efforts of other groups, such as pricing, when business needs arise.Qualifications:Recent ASA, preferably within 1 exam of FSABachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Business or similar concentration3-5 years of relevant work experienceExperience with pricing and rate settingExposure or familiarity with fixed deferred annuities and fixed indexed annuitiesDemonstrated drive for continuous learning and growthStrong work ethic, including the desire to take pride in and ownership of work products, and the willingness to “do what it takes” to meet critical objectivesExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAptitude for learning technical software and coding skills, such as Excel, VBA, and RStrong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skillsDesire to continually improve processes while delivering timely and accurate resultsIndependence and ability to effectively manage priorities
