Description
The Manager, Actuarial Solutions & Risk Analytics, reporting to the Head of Analytics & Risk Solutions, will lead efforts in product innovation and the application of data science in underwriting and claims. This role involves utilizing the organization’s data assets and analytical software tools to drive product development and decision-making. Key responsibilities include:
Responsibilities
Team Leadership
Develop and nurture team expertise, ensuring growth in skillsets and knowledge.
Strategize, manage, and coach the team on a daily basis.
Provide frequent project updates to stakeholders and propose solutions to any challenges encountered.
Oversee projects from start to finish, ensuring proper documentation and effective delegation, with timely follow-ups.
Research & Development
Extract and analyze complex datasets from various sources, evaluating the quality of data.
Create innovative tools to enhance business value.
Explore and implement cutting-edge actuarial and insurance techniques, sharing insights and outcomes with the broader organization.
Analyze performance data to refine underwriting strategies and collaborate with stakeholders for actionable outcomes.
Pricing Analysis
Lead pricing reviews for all product lines, including rate indications, loss ratio analysis, competitive studies, and regulatory filings, utilizing actuarial principles and advanced statistical techniques like GLMs.
Identify trends and adjust underwriting strategies accordingly, working closely with leadership, underwriting, and IT teams.
File rate changes with provincial regulatory bodies as necessary.
Data Analytics
Understand and leverage company systems to effectively utilize data infrastructure.
Extract, explore, and analyze various datasets, such as billing and quote data, to support business decisions.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Statistics, or Actuarial Science.
Minimum of 5 years of actuarial experience in a progressive role.
Ideally 2+ years of leadership experience.
Completion of at least 5 actuarial exams; FCAS or ACAS designation preferred.
Advanced proficiency in tools like SAS, SQL, and Excel.
Familiarity with Emblem is a plus.
