POSITION OVERVIEW
Alarm.com is seeking an ambitious and talented Embedded Software Engineer with a B.A., B.S., or M.S. Electrical/Computer Engineering or a similar engineering background with an interest in sensing applications and IoT. The Embedded Software Engineer position is ideal for candidates who want to work with various video and audio technologies in an Embedded Linux environment. Interest in sensors, computer vision, and microcontrollers for home automation and security applications, is plus as well.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Develop firmware and video applications for Alarm.com's smart camerasWork closely with multiple teams including electronic design engineers on system design and integrate firmware and hardware components of the overall system designBe knowledgeable and forward-thinking regarding technologies and developments in embedded firmware development, sensors, short and long-range wireless communication, and power managementResearching, designing and implementing highly reliable embedded firmware and softwareCollaborate with firmware engineersOperating independently but working with the senior management to understand and be fully aligned with company goals and strategiesBuilding systems that balance resources, constraints, requirements, and complexity by analyzing all possible options for designing and deriving the best solution based on sound analytical judgmentWork with hardware team to communicate requirementsWork with Alarm.com's backend team to integrate camera firmware to the backendPreferred experience with cameras or video devicesOther duties as assignedCANDIDATE PROFILE:
Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 3-5 years of work experienceStrong C programming skillsStrong C++ (C++11 or later) development skills in an embedded Linux environmentShell scripting experienceStrong understanding of various Linux IPC mechanismsExperience in BuildrootLinux kernel driver developmentStrong understanding of proper code design for multi-threaded environmentsExperience with advanced build systems such as CMake or MesonKnowledge of video compression standards and frameworks such as H.264, MPEGExperience developing REST APIsGood understanding of networking protocols relevant to video such as UDP, TCP, RTP, RTSP, WebRTCExperience with GStreamer media framework application development and ffmpegWHY WORK FOR ALARM.COM?

The salary range of this opportunity is listed below and is determined within a range based on factors including qualifications, location and experience. This allows opportunity for growth and development within the role. The salary offered is part of a total compensation package.
