DescriptionAchieves the mission and objectives of the hospital in accordance with approved policies and procedures by ensuring appropriate planning, organizing, directing, and controlling all activities of the department. Oversees and develops policies and procedures for the efficient functioning of hospital operations.Assess and develops staff in-services according to identified needs. Attends meetings, workshops, reads journals, etc. to further develop professional and management skills. Implements orientation for new staff members.Identifies problems and creates solutions for operational and clinical issues both interdepartmentally and hospital wide. Maintains collegial relationships with other departments and physicians; accepts and responds to constructive criticism. Supports administration and medical staff.Represent ERMC in hospital and community events to promote the image of the hospital and makes the hospital a better place in which to work. Suggests and assists in the development of new/or expanded services to better serve our communities.Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care. works in department as necessary to provide direct patient care.Knowledge of Meditech and other programs as needed.Rounds on other departments while on duty.Ensures' patient throughput is effective within organization.Demonstrates ability to implement internal and external disaster plans and directs emergency situations.Identifies the number and level of personnel required to provide patient care, and initiates changes in personnel and assignments as indicated based on patient acuity and activity. Responsible for maintaining cost effective staffing, and for assessing staffing levels for next shift.Evaluates the quality of nursing care by direct observation during nursing rounds, reviewing patient records, interviewing and observing, and by participating in Quality Improvement activities. During nursing rounds, assesses the quality and age specific needs of patient care delivered by staff; identifies problems and needs on the nursing units, such as safety hazards, cleanliness and supply needs; provides treatment and care as needed; coordinates department activities, especially during shift change, with other departments based on patient needs.Serves on inter-and intradepartmental committees and special task forces. Participates in Nursing Leadership meetings, Department staff meetings, and Subcommittee meetings. Holds informational shift staff meetings.Interprets, supports and recommends hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, standards and philosophy for nursing personnel. Advances nursing policy, goals and objective. Participates in the development of Nursing policy, care plans, departmental forms and Quality Improvement projects. Departmental improvement: QI project participation(list), Policy review timeliness.Demonstrates excellent clinical nursing skills; serves as a consultant and role model for nursing personnel.Troubleshoots all issues during shift and notifies Admin On-call (AOC) as needed.Investigates and follows through on complaints and incident reports; completes occurrence/incident reports according to policy.Thinks independently and takes appropriate measures to ensure successful resolutions to problems.RequirementsBLS required upon hire and maintained throughout employment. Graduate of an accredited nursing school and licensed to practice in the State of Michigan. Must complete ACLS and PALS certifications within 90 days of employment and maintained throughout employment. TNCC certification within 1 year of employment, ENPC preferred. Leadership experience as a nurse manager, assistant nurse manager or charge nurse preferred. Complete or provide proof of completion of Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 700, and 800 within 1 year.
