Mission:Durin is a mining technology company pioneering the resource extraction operations of the future. We are developing autonomous drilling control technology to decrease the cost of mineral exploration. Our business provides core drilling services to mineral exploration companies, enabling discoveries of critical materials for national security and human flourishing. Our engineering team integrates cutting-edge rig monitoring and geophysical sensors with existing and in-house drilling rigs to develop performant autonomous systems capable of providing rapid and low-cost drilling services. The team iterates quickly, testing hardware in the field daily or weekly. Located in person in El Segundo, CA, the team collaborates closely, with all team members directly contributing to the core product. Objectives:Design and prototype mechanical systems and components for autonomous drilling rigs, including hydraulic systems, drive systems, and structural elementsIntegrate mechanical designs with electrical, control, and software systemsPerform simulations, stress analysis, and finite element analysis to ensure the durability and performance of components in harsh operational conditionsOutline and perform testing and validation of new designs at a subsystem and integration level, iteratively making necessary modifications to achieve the desired objectiveOptimize mechanical systems for performance, weight, cost, and manufacturabilityConduct field visits to understand operational challenges and implement improvements to enhance performance and reliability in real-world conditionsProduce documentation outlining design choices, test results, and future improvementsCompetencies: 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in heavy machinery, drilling equipment, or autonomous systemsBachelor's degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experienceProficiency in CAD software (NX, SolidWorks, or similar)Experience with FEA tools for stress analysis and simulation (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus)Strong understanding of hydraulic systems, drive mechanisms, and structural designKnowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and tolerancesAbility to work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment to rapidly prototype and manufacture new productsExperience with field testing and working in rugged environments$90,000-$140,000 per year plus equity compensation
