Job Title: (Pipe Layer)Craft: PipeReports to: ForemanExempt Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)Position Objective/Description:Performs a variety of manual construction tasks under the direction of a crew foreman.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Install or use instruments such as lasers, grade rods, or transit levels.Cut pipes to required lengths.Connect pipe pieces and seal joints, using welding equipment, cement, or glue.Cover pipes with earth or other materials.Install or repair sanitary or storm water sewer structures or pipe systemsPerforms a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy/highway construction projectsWork site set up, maintenance, and cleanup, to include scaffolding construction and dismantling, barricade locating, and equipment locating.Load, unload, or distribute materials, machinery, or tools to and from designated locationsDirect traffic at or near building sites and carry out other traffic management activitiesDig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earthUse picks, shovels, and rakes to level earth or asphalt to grade specificationsPosition or dismantle forms for pouring concrete, using saws, hammers, nails or boltsTends pumps, compressors, or generatorsSignal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materialsAssist craft workers, such as carpenters, ironworkers, plasterers and masonsMeasure, mark, or record openings or distances as part of site preparationMay be called upon to operate a variety of power and hand tools: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, mechanical hoists, surveying, measuring and other equipmentMaintain clean work area by disposing of trash and debris properly.Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.Promote and adhere to the company's safety program.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment such as hand tools, power tools and motorized equipment.Ability to listen, follow directions, and have a willingness to continue to enhance skillsAble to communicate effectively with jobsite supervisor and co-workersGeneral knowledge of road construction processes.Demonstrate a safety first attitude. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures.Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general publicAbility to work nights and weekends when necessaryMust have reliable transportation, and ability to travel to assigned worksitesBuilding and Construction - Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of structures such as highways and roads,Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.Public Safety and Security - Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.Design - Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.Physical Demands:Constant physical effort, including extended standing for at least 8 hour shiftIntermittent sitting; continuous walking on construction site.Climb intermittentlyRegularly twist, bend, stoop, kneel and crouch to perform dutiesRegularly reach above shoulder levelRegularly push/pull objectsMust be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 75 pounds on a regular basis, and sometimes heavier weight.Agility, balance, and manual dexterity, as well as arm-hand steadinessAble to hear and respond to oral instructions in a noisy environment.Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach and grasp with hands and arms.Excellent hand, eye and foot coordination.Good vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focusEducation / Experience:High School diploma or general education degree (GED)3+ recent years' experience working as a Pipe Layer.Active Driver's licenseWork Environment:Regularly works in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and humidity. Frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. Handles various toxic products such as epoxies, grouts, sealers, paints and cleaners, with exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock.
