POSITION PURPOSE:
This position is with the EdgeNetworking team within the Bureau of Infrastructure under the PennsylvaniaOffice of Administration (OA). Thepurpose of this position is to provide network support to edge networks forassigned agencies within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The selected candidate will beresponsible for providing technical support for planning, designing,maintaining, and integrating local and wide area network infrastructure andwill have input into the edge networking architecture deployed throughout the Enterprise. The selected candidate must be able tocommunicate well and needs to be a highly technical and eager individual withnumerous years of experience in a large environment.
CCNA and CCNP certificates orhigher are preferred, but candidates with demonstrable levels of commensuratehands-on experience will be considered.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Installs, configures, maintains,and manages network infrastructure consisting primarily of switches, routers,firewalls, Silver Peak SD-WAN edge appliances, wireless infrastructure,cellular-based appliances, and all associated hardware and software.
Performs network managementfunctions utilizing various industry tools to monitor, test, verify,troubleshoot, and resolve complex network problems by working with users,service providers, business partners, and others to resolve problems.
Assists the Edge Networking teamin the planning and design of LAN/WAN network architecture including:•Network bandwidth analysis and capacityplanning.•Detailed specifications and schematicengineering drawings for network enhancements and modifications.
Assists in the execution ofplanned deployments and upgrades and supports change management efforts withinthe edge networking group.
Coordinates change managementefforts with agency and other edge networking teams.
Participates in Service Nowtrouble ticket resolution and reporting.
Ensures that assigned edgenetworking trouble tickets or incidents follow established processes and arefully documented within Service Now.
Assists with tier 2 support forwidespread events/ incidents to customers and other networking teams as needed.
Proactively identifies andtroubleshoots issues related to complex network problems and works them toresolution, including communication to other networking teams.
Participates with the Edge Networkingteam in the evaluation of, and makes recommendations on, new and emergingtechnologies as part of the ongoing hardware refresh cycles.
Evaluates current and futurenetwork needs and prepares technical solutions and recommendations.
Reviews thedevelopment of configuration standards.
Assists in the design of highlycomplex networks as well as makes recommendations to optimize the edge networkfor maximum efficiency.
Ensuresthat all existing and new networks meet or exceed the security requirements setforth by OA.
Assistsin the creation of Visio diagrams of the edge network to document new andexisting network elements, especially those deemed specialty/ field networks.
Maintainsdocumentation for the configuration of network components including setup,installation, and overall deployment of network hardware and software.
Supports remote IT staff withnetwork-related issues and deployments.
Supports agency operations staffand business partners with network-related issues as needed.
Communicates effectively bothverbally and in writing with other employees, vendors, and business partners.
Maintains an understanding ofvarious routing protocols.
Maintains a working knowledge ofnetwork monitoring tools and automation.
Performs other duties as required.

Equipment in use in JobPerformance: Personal Computers,servers, network components, telephones, calculator, copy machines, printers,faxes, cell phones and common writing devices. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to work from a step ladder.
JOB LOCATION:
Part-time telework is an optionfor this position, as is working from a structured office setting at anapproved Commonwealth-owned facility. Occasional attendance at various meetings, conferences, and trainingsessions, as well as overnight travel, may be required.
