Engineering IT Shared Services at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks applicants for an Associate Web Application Developer. We are the IT services provider for the nationally-ranked Grainger College of Engineering, providing services for teaching, research, and learning. Individuals that demonstrate commitment and determination in their work will find this a rewarding and supportive environment.The Associate Web Application Developer is responsible for programming and maintaining web applications or sites within the College of Engineering web hosting infrastructure. This position is expected to act within guidelines and consult with seniors to make changes with minimal risk. This position reports to the Manager of Application Development within Application Development and Data Analytics division of Engineering IT Shared Services.Duties and Responsibilities:Code Development:• Develop applications or sites according to specifications provided by analyst and/or end-users that are approved by the associate director, manager or lead.• Enhance existing web applications or sites by developing new functionality through code.• Utilize database backend to read, write and store information via web interfaces.• Improve performance of systems through commonly accepted and utilized practices.• Solve problems under limited supervision.Customer Service and Support:• Respond to user requests for service in timely, polite, and professional manner.• Document functionality of projects authored within an existing documentation framework.• Write reports and summaries of work accomplished by submitting regular status reports required for billing.Project and Task Delivery:• Assist on project teams and task forces at the team, divisional, and organizational levels.• Complete individual projects and tasks assigned by supervisor on time with quality.Organizational Support:• Interact with various teams within Engineering IT Shared Services to ensure outstanding service delivery to the customers.• As needed, supervise student/hourly employees, including the assignment of tasks, performance management, etc.• Maintain awareness of centrally provided services and assist customers with those services.• Work within cross-functional teams.Other Duties as AssignedMinimum Qualifications:• High school diploma or equivalent.• Two (2) years of progressively more responsible work experience in an Information Technology (IT) related profession. College coursework which included Information Technology (IT), IT Management or a closely related discipline, may be substituted as follows: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year, Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen (18) months, 90 semester hours equals two (2) years, Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years).• Experience with SQL server, Oracle, and/or MySQL.• Experience with developing web applications and web application frameworks.• Experience with user interface design.Preferred Qualifications:• Experience in technology at an institution of higher education or equivalent.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:• Knowledge of at least one supported framework programming language.• Demonstrated basic SQL server database design skills; able to create tables and views, write queries to select, insert, update and join data from multiple tables.• Ability to develop basic web applications which collect user data, storing data in a relational database, and allow manipulation of data by the user.• Ability to troubleshoot issues with own apps.• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.• Familiarity with basic application security.• Excellent customer service skills.• Excellent oral and written communications skills.• Ability to participate in cross-functional groups assigned to tasks or project work.• Ability to effectively communicate and professionally interact with all staff levels and customer groups.APPOINTMENT INFORMATIONThis is a full-time Civil Service Information Technology Technical Associate position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $74,700-$90,400. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. Fully remote work may be possible for this position per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy.
