Catholic Charities San Francisco
Chief Philanthropy Officer
Catholic Charities San Francisco, San Francisco, California, United States, 94199
Founded in 1853 and rooted in Catholic traditions of charity and justice, Catholic Charities CYO (CCCYO) supports families, aging and adults with disabilities, immigrants, and youth through social services and opportunities for healthy growth and development.
Catholic Charities CYO is known, respected, and valued as a leader in providing direct services, advocating for social justice, and collaborating to define and address the most pressing human services needs in the communities served. The organization’s core values stem from basic human principles - respect, compassion, and accountability. CCCYO remains determined to compassionately serve the most marginalized and vulnerable, regardless of circumstance or religious affiliation. CCCYO’s clients represent all people: individuals, families, children, youth, adults, and seniors.
This iconic organization, although vibrant and more relevant than ever, is prepared to redouble its efforts to further strengthen and provide visibility to its position as the leading human services agency in the Bay Area. To that end, an immediate critical area of focus for CCCYO is the organization’s fundraising operation; a robust, growth-driven, integrated fundraising program that values both relationships with a variety of communities and data as essential for CCCYO to meet its ambitious goals and objectives.
Position Responsibilities
Catholic Charities CYO seeks a deeply experienced and dynamic Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO) to lead all aspects of the development enterprise, unifying all elements of the fundraising operation, driving innovation and outreach across multiple channels, maximizing impact, and achieving significant, sustained revenue growth. This is an exceptional opportunity for a motivated and mission-driven development professional to play a leadership role, enabling significant transformational impact on contributed revenue, and ultimately further strengthening CCCYO in making the Bay Area a safer and healthier place for vulnerable communities.
Specifically, the Chief Philanthropy Officer will be responsible for:
Creating and implementing a cohesive, collaborative, and unified fundraising program; monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the fundraising infrastructure and program.
Providing strategic leadership to all organization-wide funding programs and activity with a collective, organization-wide responsibility for an annual budget of approximately $60 million as well as an additional goal of approximately $6-10 million in corporate, philanthropic and individual gifts in the fiscal year.
Partnering with the CEO, other organizational leaders and development staff to set, support, and implement an integrated fundraising strategy that expands the support base of CCCYO and drives revenue growth above sector benchmarks.
Deepening relationships with and inspiring a broad set of donors that may include private and family philanthropy, corporate allies as well as CCCYO board and key volunteers/donors.
Leading and inspiring a diverse fundraising team which includes building capacity that leverages tools, analytics and data to expand reach and maximize effectiveness.
Ensuring that CCCYO’s culture, systems, and procedures support fund development and partner with programmatic entities to increase impact and visibility.
Profile of the Successful Candidate
CCCYO seeks an energetic, outward-facing, hands-on fundraising professional who shares a passion for CCCYO’s mission, combined with a strong interest in addressing the community’s most vital issues and the ability to position the organization as a community leader. CCCYO embraces the attributes, characteristics, and perspectives that make each person unique, respecting all differences, visible and invisible, and challenging prejudice and bias that consciously or unconsciously target people from all walks of life.
More specifically, CCCYO seeks a professional who has:
Deep passion for and commitment to CCCYO’s mission to protect the most vulnerable.
Ability to inspire and engage others as a senior leader of an impactful organization.
An understanding of and commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders from various backgrounds; high level of cultural competency with respect to race, ethnicity, national origin, culture, ability, religion, sexual orientation and gender identity and expression; and a demonstrated high level of emotional intelligence.
Significant professional experience in progressively responsible development leadership positions, which includes work in all functional areas (individual giving, institutional giving, planned giving, stewardship, foundations, board relations) and participation in a major capital campaign (planning, implementation, management, and successful conclusion), for an organization or institution of similar complexity with multiple stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to provide strategic and operational management, with at least 10 years of senior-level management experience, including creating and managing a multimillion-dollar budget and significant people management experience.
A supportive and accessible management style with the ability to recruit and develop talented individuals who are accountable to established objectives and performance standards.
Experience in strategic organizational assessment, development and design with success in rebuilding/restructuring a large-scale, comprehensive operation with a track record of significant revenue growth.
A personal history of securing numerous significant gifts (six, seven, and eight figures), including cultivation through solicitation and stewardship, as well as experience working with strategies for developing the next generation of major gift donors.
Demonstrated ability to strategically move individuals and institutions across the spectrum of prospect development as well as success in securing gifts from both defined and new constituencies.
The cultural sensitivity required to effectively raise funds throughout the Bay Area’s business, social, political and faith communities.
Strength in developing the case for support and strategic, complex, and innovative fundraising plans, and executing against those plans to achieve strategic goals and objectives.
Experience working directly with the most senior levels of an organization and a board.
Experience identifying, nurturing, and motivating board or other volunteer leaders, and a sophisticated understanding of their role in building an effective philanthropic network.
Prefer a track record of cultivating and maintaining professional relationships with the business, medical and technology sectors who can provide robust philanthropic support.
Demonstrated ability to work with marketing and communications in support of achieving development goals.
A functional understanding of how to effectively leverage various communication platforms and distribution channels for optimal exposure and impact.
Skills in organizational efficiency and project leadership, including demonstrated accomplishments while working with cross-functional teams.
Skill at goal setting and measuring success, and agility in addressing alternate program directions when necessary to meet goals or respond to changing priorities.
The ability to extract and analyze data to make effective, efficient decisions about development strategies and processes.
A forward-thinking mindset, driven by innovation, transformation, and impact.
A global orientation and knowledge of strategies and trends in human services philanthropy preferred.
