Due to internal changes, the Town of Woodstock has an opening in the Planning and Zoning Department. The Director of Planning and Zoning performs difficult advanced technical work in administration of the planning and zoning activities for the Town. They manage the application of planning, zoning, and land use regulations and laws; supervise the enforcement of the zoning ordinance and related codes; conduct long-range transportation and comprehensive planning; and assist in economic development. This person will provide technical, planning, facilitation, and policy support to guide the land use, natural resource management, and development of the Town. Their work is performed under the general direction of the Town Manager, and the Director of Planning and Zoning supervises personnel within the department.
The ideal candidate will promote the Town’s goals of setting the standard for local government performance. They will have thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, comprehensive knowledge of urban design best practices, and demonstrated experience in strategic thinking. The successful candidate will also possess excellent communication skills in dealing with the public including competency in verbal and nonverbal communication, the ability to maintain confidentiality, interpret state and local laws, and use logical thought processes to develop creative solutions. The ideal candidate should excel at building collaborative relationships across all town departments, elected and appointed officials, developers and contractors, and our many community stakeholders. The successful candidate will work to continue educational initiatives in order to stay attuned to the changes and best practices in planning and zoning. The successful individual will have a desire to abide by the Town’s organizational values.

This is an FLSA exempt, at-will, full-time position, with occasional night meeting requirements, and the hiring range is expected to be between $66,817 - $86,862. The successful applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment, post-offer drug screening.
