The Practice Director, with a team of Practice Managers and other practice management professionals, drives progress on core responsibilities such as strategic planning activities, financial and operational management, attorney and timekeeper resource management, integration, engagement, and other duties as needed. The Practice Director collaborates with firm wide administrative departments to identify organizational issues, identify solutions, and advocate best practices to facilitate the development and implementation of the Firm, Department, and Practice Groups’ business objectives.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Manage and direct Department practice management team, including Sr. Managers, Managers, Coordinators, and Assistants.Identify and develop processes to attain department and practice group business and operational goals.Participate in the development and implementation of Department, Practice Group and individual lawyers’ annual business plans and practice group budgets. Manage practice management related group expenditures against the budget.Partner with firm administrative departments to support and coordinate initiatives and business strategy of the Department and Practice Groups.Provide data and analysis to Department and Practice Group leadership on business objectives including productivity, time entry, workflow, practice group budgets, and related firm statistics. Proactively identify needs and necessary process improvements and propose solutions.Support leadership and individual partners with addressing timekeeper performance and productivity issues and handling workload management and training needs.Oversee agenda development and meeting facilitation with Practice Group Leadership and practice management team to meet the strategic and business objectives of the practice groups, involving administrative department representatives as appropriate.Support the lateral partner recruiting process and lead integration processes, serving as a liaison for lateral partners.Collaborate with Legal Talent and Legal Support Administration to address the professional development needs of counsel, associates, and other timekeepers.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Thorough understanding of the basic functions of a law firm, as well as techniques for compiling, analyzing, and presenting operational information and practice efficiency and productivity metrics.Ability to exercise sound independent judgment, tact and discretion involving sensitive and confidential matters.Strong administrative, management, and leadership capabilities, including ability to work independently as well as on a team, with minimal supervision, and collaborate effectively across administrative departments and Practice Groups in all offices.Demonstrated ability to provide strategic operational leadership, coupled with technical and professional knowledge.“Servant leadership” mindset, demonstrating the ability to build and maintain strong relationships and gain the trust of the attorneys and administrative staff.Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail, even when under pressure.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, in oral and written form, with people at all levels within the Firm.Awareness and understanding of business and improvement processes and developing and implementing best practices.In-depth understanding of Microsoft Office suite is preferred, with an ability to quickly learn and utilize additional software solutions.Demonstrates flexibility, initiative, and a positive attitude.Education and/or Experience:Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree, such as MBA or JD, preferred.Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience working in a professional services firm in a leadership role; direct experience in a law firm preferred.Strong related experience managing people and teams in a fast-paced environment.The Firm will comply with any applicable city or state workplace mandates in effect in regards to Covid-19.This position description is intended to describe the general content of and requirements for the performance of the job.
