Job Summary
The Dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences and Distance Education occupies the central node of operational communications related to academic program management, operation and evaluation. The Dean is responsible for the development, organization, management and evaluation of the human and non-human resources required to effectively deliver the instructional programs that allow the University to meet its mission. The Dean is also responsible for the development, organization, management, and evaluation of the human and non-human resources required to effectively perform specific institutional analysis strategies required for planning and self-study purposes.
Responsibilities
Responsible to the Vice President for Academic Services for the successful operation of academic programs and activities.
Strive to build the academic reputation of the University.
Provide academic leadership through personal example, planning, organizing, interpreting and measuring results.
Work with department Directors to recruit highly competent faculty and recommend their employment to the Vice President for Academic Services.
Work with faculty for the continuing development of their course syllabi.
Balance human and non-human resources and limitations of faculty and facilities with academic program needs.
Work with the Vice President for Academic Services to review and/or develop academic policies and to develop and implement rules and regulations concerning faculty compensation and rules of employment.
Review and/or develop standards relative to academic standards for both classroom and distance education formats and a means for evaluating compliance.
Work with the Registrar to schedule classes for the academic programs, make appropriate instructional room assignments, and schedule faculty.
Maintain a current file on faculty academic vitae, academic documents, faculty and student profiles, research projects and outcomes, leaves of absence, and sabbaticals.
Supervise and evaluate faculty.
Provide academic advising for students and in cooperation with the Dean of Student Services provides appropriate non-academic counseling.
Develop reports required for good educational management decisions and for planning and self-study purposes and reports assigned by the Vice President for Academic Services.
Initiate programs to develop faculty for their effective teaching.
Review, renew, organize, manage and evaluate the student evaluation process and procedures.
Monitor the learning and teaching environment of the academic programs.
Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Academic Services.
Qualifications
Required
Terminal academic or first professional degree from an accredited institution
Minimum of five years teaching experience
Minimum of five years educational management experience
Knowledge of health care terminology
Experience in a professional school environment
Experience with distance education standards, management and pedagogy
Preferred
Terminal degree in education
