in support of the A Crecer Phase 2 Study. The

Research Assistant

will conduct data collection with enrolled participants, as well as assist with outreach, recruitment, enrollment, and data collection activities with an additional set of participants who will be Latine sexual and gender minority (SGM) adolescents and young adults.RTI International (0980)The A Crecer Study Phase 2 is the extension of the A Crecer Study Phase 1 (the Salinas Teen Health Study), a prospective cohort study of approximately 600 Latine youth who enrolled in the study in 8th grade ~age 13. Phase 1 was conducted in partnership with the Monterey County Health Department and Natividad Medical Center in Salinas with many community collaborators. The study is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and led by researchers in the Women’s Global Health Imperative research program at RTI International (based in Berkeley) and the University of California – San Francisco. This project will extend the work done in Phase 1 to examine structural and social factors that affect Latine youth’s sexual health outcomes and well-being. Beginning in November 2024, Phase 2 is expanding and will be enrolling new study participants. In this supplement of phase 2, the goal is to understand influences on sexual health outcomes among Latine sexual and gender minority (SGM) adolescents and young adults (AYA), such as those who identify as LGBTQI+. With this information, the goal is to develop interventions that can help improve sexual health and well-being for Latine youth during the period of early adulthood.The

Research Assistant/Analyst

will join a local study team comprised of a Project Coordinator and a Research Assistant. This position is part-time (approximately 20hrs/week), and benefits-eligible

depending

on % time, with opportunities for flexible scheduling in discussion with the Study Coordinator. This role has a tentative end date of June 2025, with

possible

extension depending on funding. The study office is regularly open between 9am and 5pm on weekdays, and occasional weekend hours. Work will be conducted in Salinas, CA in an office setting.The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00 per hour.Employment provided by Heluna Health.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSWorking both independently and as part of a study team under the supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Research Assistant/Analyst will work on the following tasks:Complete training on study procedures related to data collection, recruitment, informed consent, conducting interviews, and NIH human subjects protection.Re-engage current study participants through a variety of communication channels.Assist with outreach, recruitment and enrollment of new study participants.Conduct follow-up with participants to bring them back for scheduled study visits.Conduct study interviews using a computer-based survey.Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of study participants.Human specimen handling: Prepare urine or vaginal swab samples for laboratory analysis and share resources with participants.Other duties as assigned.JOB QUALIFICATIONSEducation/ExperienceBA or college coursework in the academic areas of Psychology, Sociology, Education, Public/Community Health or related field (preferred).Experience with research studies preferred.Experience working with and engaging LGBTQI+ adolescents and/or Latine youth preferred.Experience leading open-ended conversations through counseling, peer educator activities, motivational interviewing, qualitative interviewing for data collection, or similar tasks preferred.Certificates/Licenses/ClearancesBackground check clearance.A valid California driver’s license, proof of vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation or the ability to secure timely transportation to perform the essential functions of the job.Other Skills, Knowledge, and AbilitiesComfort with talking about sensitive topics related to reproductive health, sexuality and sexual behavior.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Interest in adolescent/emerging adulthood health and community-based research.Knowledge of the Latine community in Salinas or similar community preferred.Strong oral and written communication skills.Organized, reliable, self-motivated.PHYSICAL DEMANDSStand FrequentlyWalk OccasionallySit FrequentlyHandling / Fingering FrequentlyReach Outward OccasionallyReach Above Shoulder Not ApplicableClimb, Crawl, Kneel, Bend Not ApplicableLift / Carry Not ApplicablePush/Pull Not ApplicableSee ConstantlyHear ConstantlyTaste/ Smell Not ApplicableNot Applicable
