This position will report to the Associate Vice President for First-Year Recruiting and will provide support to the Office of Admissions in the overall execution of strategic departmental and institutional enrollment. The Assistant Director will manage an extended regional recruitment territory, including travel, college fairs, receptions, information sessions, high school visits, and electronic outreach. This position will collaborate with Academic Programs, Financial Aid, Student Services, Admissions Processing, and will participate in Institutional Committees as needed. The Assistant Director may be called on to take on additional responsibilities in the absence of the AVP.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Nurture, build, and sustain ongoing professional relationships with prospective students and those who influence them to achieve assigned enrollment objectives within allocated travel and spending budget by moving students and their parents to progressively higher levels of interest and commitment through the enrollment funnel.
Chair the Presidential Scholar committee.
Become familiar with the territory and any distinctive aspects of the territory, including but not limited to sources of students, preferences of students, and sources of competition located in the territory. Learn and use “best practices” for this territory to achieve enrollment objectives.
Research the potential for both travel and other programs in the territory to develop a plan for on & off-campus activities to achieve the enrollment objectives for the territory. Present this plan for approval, and then execute the approved plan within the approved budget.
Monitor and analyze data for high schools in the territory to understand and plan which schools should receive more attention than others and to capitalize on referrals.
Cultivate relationships with alumni, parents, guidance counselors, and other constituencies in the territory to assist with the recruitment process.
Regularly monitor the inquiry, prospect, application, and deposit numbers from the territory to focus on attaining assigned objectives for the territory. Responsible for weekly assessment of progress toward individual and team recruitment goals.
Strategically determine the best next source and means of institutional contact for prospects within an assigned territory.
Ensure that all inbound and outbound communication with prospects and applicants is accurately recorded in an extremely timely manner within the appropriate software using protocols.
Conduct tele-recruiting activities.
Monitor the receipt of applications from the territory and determine the best next steps in the recruitment process for each applicant.
Evaluate applications for admission from the assigned territory making each admit/deny decision using discretionary professional judgment about the applicant’s academic preparation, academic work ethic, and fit for the academic programs at the University.
Contribute toward team achievement of office-wide enrollment management objectives by acting as lead agent in the initiating, planning and executing of assigned professional expertise projects supporting specific functions needed by all territory managers.
Provide professional example/mentoring for any and all student workers in the office.
Attend and assist in planning and promoting on and off campus recruitment events.
Effectively represent the University to prospective students and all external publics in interviews, information sessions and special projects.
Perform such similar, comparable, or related duties as may be required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University/College. Masters Degree preferred.
Experience: 2+ years working in Admissions or a related field. Familiarity with principles of marketing desired, whether through direct experience or coursework.
Skills/Aptitude: Ability to effectively and enthusiastically represent the mission of the university, including the key aspects/benefits of a private, liberal arts, and residential college education. Ability and desire to effectively and credibly interact with parents, college-bound high school students, university faculty, university administrators, and faculty and staff of high schools. Organized, accurate, detail-oriented, and extremely timely and engaging in customer service and sales situations. Availability and willingness to enthusiastically work evenings, weekends, and campus visit programs, as needed for success in the territory. Availability and willingness to enthusiastically travel possibly up to 8 or more weeks per year depending on the needs of the territory. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work as a member of the admissions team to implement enrollment strategies to meet established goals. PC skills. Good driving record and valid driver’s license. Positive attitude and temperament.
