VCIN certification; valid driver’s licenseJob SummaryThe Deputy Director of Court Services manages and directs the day-to-day operations of the Rockingham-Harrisonburg Court Services Department in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Harrisonburg/Rockingham Community Criminal Justice Board (CCJB) and the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services. This position provides day-to-day operational oversight for all court services programs, including Pre-Trial, Probation and the Recovery Court Program. This position also oversees the training and logistics of the Crisis Intervention Team.Essential Job FunctionsAn employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential duties:Oversees the programs and services provided by the Court Services division, including pre-trial, probation and drug court services.Supervision of our team ensuring proper training, performance reviews and adherence to workplace safety and county policies.Assist officers with drug testing, provide direct supervision of pretrial defendants, probationers and other clients in various programs as needed and managing hostile situations involving clients.Oversees and develops the training and logistics of the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). Assists in planning and development of criminal justice programs in coordination with the Community Criminal Justice Board (CCJB).Develops and maintains professional working relationships with various agencies, including police departments, magistrates, Sheriff’s Office, Commonwealth’s Attorney, Community Services Board, local hospitals and service providers and the Defense Bar. Assists in implementing the overall goals of the CCJB. Prepares and disseminates agenda for Community Criminal Justice Board and works with stakeholders to make recommendations on policy and programmatic activities in the best interests of public safety.Gathers and analyzes data, research trends and best practices, identifies opportunities to increase efficiency and improve outcomes.Prepare written reports and statistical data relevant to stakeholders and community interests.Assist Recovery Court Coordinator, Pre-Trial team and Probation team with case management, determines workflow, resolve conflicts and ensure consistent case management practices across the Court Services spectrum.Manages and supervises direct reports in the performance of their duties.Ensures compliance with data entry standards set by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services.Maintains contact with the District Courts and Circuit Court judges, magistrates, defense attorneys, treatment providers, Commonwealth’s Attorney, Sheriff, Chief of Police, and other agency heads to determine needs of locality with respect to Criminal justice activities.Responds to emergency situations when needed. May work non-standard hours and weekends.Perform related tasks as required.Knowledge• Criminal justice process and local judicial system• Code of Virginia and DCJS minimum standards• Budget preparation and granting writingSkills• Strong organizational skills• Manage one's own time and the time of others• Monitor/Assess performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective actionAbilities• Communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand• Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense• Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events)• Maintain regular work attendanceTo ApplyAll applicants must apply online.
