Reporting to the SVP, Strategy, M&A and Innovation for Optum Financial, the VP Strategy and M&A is a senior-level strategic and development role accountable for driving the growth agenda through the cultivation and delivery of external partnerships, M&A and organic growth that leverage capabilities across Optum Financial and our lines of business to drive innovative market solutions. As a primary leader on the Optum Financial Innovation team and with executive guidance and support, the VP will have accountability for creating a foundation for long-term, successful partnerships, and providing long-term governance support. The VP will ensure critical win-win relationships are grown and sustained over the long-term in an operationally effective and coordinated manner in alignment with Optum Financial's long range plan.

Primary Responsibilities:

Acting as General Manager for the overall partnership relationship, combining creative and innovative enterprise-level strategic thinking with technical rigor to own the entire deal execution process.

Developing and leveraging executive presence and personal credibility to successfully navigate robust business portfolio and leadership landscape, working effectively with cross-functional clinical, strategy, finance, and legal teams.

Leading development of partnership and value creation thesis, ensuring arrangements align with Optum Financial’s strategic objectives through deep relationships with internal and external partner executives (e.g., C-Suite and decision makers), creating market-differentiating solutions with products and services from across the enterprise.

Managing communication and internal alignment to facilitate integration planning and transitioning to business units leading ongoing, long-term implementation.

Balancing success through strategic and financial value realization for Optum Financial and partner organizations; escalating client and internal issues to remove barriers.

Working internally with key functions and stakeholders (e.g., Finance, Corporate Development, Corporate Strategy, Technology) across the enterprise to identify and prioritize prospective partnership opportunities.

Influencing project teams for each relationship and supporting multiple deals concurrently in collaboration with internal SMEs throughout the enterprise.

Required Qualifications:

10+ years of strategic business development, corporate development, corporate strategy, or senior level consulting experience with 3+ years of experience in driving transactions (including M&A or non-M&A transactions).

Deep experience collaborating and navigating large organizations and cross-functional teams on multi-year engagements.

Proven experience and expertise in the healthcare market, especially provider and/or payer, and fintech.

Demonstrated history of productive relationships with C-Suite and senior-level client executives.

A deep understanding of financial and business models, market trends, and consumer behaviors, enabling the creation of industry-leading solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MHA).

Experience in driving non-M&A transactions (e.g., JVs, affiliations, MSA agreements, etc.).

Understanding of Fintech & healthcare landscape to include financial acumen, product, operations, technology operation, and data.

Advanced communication and negotiating ability in the context of complex fortune 100 organizations.

Advanced aptitude for conflict resolution and problem-solving.

Deep understanding of and experience with UnitedHealth Group’s enterprise, business units, and capabilities.

The salary range for this role is $188,000 to $357,600 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
