STARS works closely with the rootEd Alliance, a non-profit organization that places college and career advisors in rural and small-town high schools to ensure every student graduates on a path to achieve career success and economic stability.Job Summary:The STARS College Advisor Supervisor will be based in the Chicagoland area and able to travel for meetings and events to the University of Chicago campus located in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. They will lead a team of hybrid college advisors based in Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas. Each college advisor reporting to the Supervisor will remotely advise high school students through the college process at 6-8 schools. As a leader, the Supervisor will work with the rootEd Alliance and STARS member schools to create a comprehensive plan for advisor assignments, responsibilities, and expectations. The Supervisor will also evaluate advisor performance and may manage their own portfolio of schools to advise students. This position reports to the Executive Director of the STARS College Network.Responsibilities:Manages a group of STARS College Advisors based around the country providing regular guidance on best practices, role expectations, and outcomes reporting.Assists with hiring and onboarding of new advisors.Collaborates with STARS College Network members and rootEd high school partners regarding advisor placement.Regularly meets with rootEd and STARS leadership to identify opportunities for collaboration.Regularly meets remotely with advisors to check on progress and performance.Travels to various sites for in-person meetings with advisors.Provides 1:1 college advising in a remote setting with assigned high schools.Travels to assigned high schools once per quarter for in-person meetings with students.Hosts virtual events with high schools to promote college-going, assist with application completion, provide essay support, and share information on applying for financial aid.Responds to students, advisors, and partners via phone and e-mail.Weekend and evening availability is expected throughout the year for some aspects of the position including travel to high school sites or STARS member sites.Maintains relationships with all individuals involved in the recruitment process, including routinely counseling students and parents regarding the admission process.Participates in special projects such as developing marketing materials, monitoring budgets and recruiting underrepresented groups with moderate/high levels of authority.Performs other related work as needed.Minimum Qualifications:Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.Preferred Qualifications:Education:Master’s degree in related field.Experience:Background supervising staff.Familiarity with college admissions processes.Certifications:Valid United States driver’s license.Technical Skills or Knowledge:Knowledge of Microsoft Office.Preferred Competencies:Excellent verbal and written communication.Presentation skills.Analytical skills.Work independently and as part of a team.Maintain confidentiality.Handle a high volume of work, execute multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines.Working Conditions:Work will take place remotely and in an office setting.Candidates should live in the Chicagoland area or be able to relocate to start the position.
