Director, Health Care Administration - PediatricsJob Description:The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Florida is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Director of Health Care Administration. This executive leadership position plays a crucial role in overseeing the administrative, financial, research, and operational functions of a large and complex department comprising 21 divisions and approximately 700 faculty and staff members. The Director will serve as a trusted business partner to the Department Chair, ensuring the alignment of departmental goals with the College of Medicine's mission to advance research, education, and clinical excellence.Leadership Responsibilities:
Implement process and policy changes required by the University, College of Medicine Dean’s Office, UFP/FCPA, and the UF Health System, while fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, and team empowerment. This includes initiating process improvements, providing regular training and mentorship to enhance team skills, and developing professional development plans to ensure growth and alignment with departmental goals.Administrative Management:
Oversee the daily administrative operations for all academic missions—clinical, teaching, and research. This includes developing and implementing policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and compliance, as well as managing departmental schedules, meetings, and events to ensure timely and accurate communication within the department and with external stakeholders.Financial Management:
Develop and manage the department’s budget, including forecasting and financial planning. Monitoring financial performance is critical, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints while overseeing grant administration and research funding. The Director will serve as the senior fiscal officer for the department, ensuring compliance with College, UF Health, and University financial policies and procedures.Human Resources:
Manage recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training of administrative staff. Handle employee relations, performance evaluations, and professional development initiatives. Ensure compliance with university HR policies and labor laws.Faculty Affairs:
Oversee faculty appointments, promotions, and tenure processes. This includes managing the faculty recruitment process and ensuring that annual faculty evaluations are completed and communicated effectively.Strategic Planning:
Assist in the development and implementation of the department’s strategic plan, identifying opportunities for growth and improvement in academic, research, and clinical programs. Coordination with faculty and university leadership will be essential to align departmental goals with institutional objectives.Research Administration:
Support faculty in the preparation and submission of research proposals. Oversee the administration of research projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Facilitate collaborations and partnerships to advance research initiatives.Academic Support:
Coordinate academic programs, including curriculum development, scheduling, and accreditation processes. This position will support student recruitment, admissions, and academic advising for undergraduate medical education (UME), graduate students, housestaff, and postdoctoral fellows, while managing departmental records and ensuring accurate reporting of academic activities.Facilities and Equipment Management:
Oversee the maintenance and utilization of departmental facilities and equipment. This includes coordinating with university facilities management to address infrastructure needs and ensuring a safe and compliant work environment for all department members.Communications and Public Relations:
Develop and implement communication strategies to promote departmental activities and achievements. Maintain the department’s website and social media presence. Serve as a liaison between the department and external stakeholders, including donors, alumni, and community partners.Collaboration and Support:
Work closely with the department chair to implement departmental goals and initiatives. Provide support to divisional administrators, ensuring cohesive and coordinated administrative efforts across the department. Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.Salary:
$175,000 - $195,000 commensurate with education, experience, skills and qualifications.Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience.Preferred Qualifications:Proven leadership experience in complex healthcare or academic environments.Strong financial acumen with expertise in budgeting and grant administration.Knowledge of UF rules and regulations, as well as national and state funding agency guidelines.Familiarity with UF operating procedures.Understanding of healthcare finances, including billing and collections.Knowledge of the UF system, including UFF, Inc., DSR, Graduate School, travel, finance, accounting, contracts, grants, and purchasing.Experience with extramural grant funding and physician billing.Ability to develop and implement strategic plans aligned with institutional goals.Commitment to continuous learning and awareness of industry trends.Special Instructions to Applicants:
