Vice President Consumer Lending

WSECU is one of the largest credit unions in Washington State and as we continue our growth, we are seeking a highly skilled leader to lead a strong consumer lending team through exciting changes. This role will focus on transforming and evolving processes and leveraging technology to create operational scalability while ensuring alignment with our purpose and vision. A key aspect of this position will be the development and mentorship of team members, fostering an innovative and vision-focused workforce.
The Vice President of Consumer Lending provides oversight and strategic direction for all aspects of WSECU’s Consumer Loan activities, including home equity lending, direct and indirect vehicle lending, and credit cards. They oversee the member borrowing experience, collaborating with the leadership in our branches, contact center, and digital channels to achieve lending production goals, and effectively implement WSECU’s risk strategy through sound underwriting.
The Vice President will drive consumer lending origination strategies and business plan with the support of direct reports, who will manage the day-to-day operations and delivery of service in each department. They will take the opportunity to assess workflows through a strategic lens, leading to results in streamlined and simplified processes that improve the member experience, create operational scalability during production peaks, and monitor/improve ROI on consumer loan originations. The VP will participate actively in strategic routines designed to create organizational transparency, prioritization, and alignment of cross-divisional and department efforts.
As the VP of Consumer Lending, your day might include:
Development, oversight, and implementation of the annual Consumer Lending strategy and Business Plan.
Overseeing productivity and workflow efficiencies of all consumer lending back-office operations in a centralized environment.
Providing strong leadership to managers in each area of responsibility through regular coaching, evaluations, employee development and training. Practices consistent management routines and applies sound principles of change management, especially with division-wide projects and system conversions.
Developing and implementing lending policies and underwriting guidelines to ensure quality and integrity of loan portfolio.
Recommending new products and pricing strategies to meet current and future member needs. Managing product margins while maintaining the quality of the consumer loan portfolio. Works closely with Finance to manage the Pricing Methodology that supports business plan objectives, supports saying “yes” responsibly to as many members as possible while ensuring that loan pricing is commensurate for the risk.
Ensuring achievement of service level standards, specifically Voice of Member and Service to Co-worker Surveys.
Maintaining knowledge of the lending landscape to ensure WSECU’s lending products remain relevant.
Assuring compliance with state and federal laws.
Recommending and overseeing related budgeting of revenue, expense and production projections while managing to loan portfolio concentration/mix targets.
Partnering with the Marketing Department to drive results toward meeting production goals.
Collaborating with all areas of the credit union and external business partners to accomplish strategic goals and ensure the appropriate levels of compliance and service.
What you bring to the team:
Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field, with at least ten years of experience in a financial institution leading all aspects of consumer lending (indirect lending, home equity lending, centralized underwriting, centralized processing, loan origination systems, point of sale solutions, credit risk management, project management and/or oversight), with at least five years at the management or executive level, and at least two years of leadership within an organization of $2 billion or greater in assets. Related experience may be substituted year for year for academic achievement.
Proven ability to understand and introduce emerging and innovative technology that drives efficiency, enhances the borrower experience, renders more reliable credit decisions, and/or reduces costs.
Strong organizational, communication, analytical, project management, problem solving and decision-making skills required.
Proven leadership skills and the ability to drive high quality loan growth through lending products and delivery channels and superior member service.
Thorough knowledge of all state and federal regulations pertaining to consumer loans.
Proficiency in PC software, including Microsoft programs and standard lending systems and the ability to learn credit union-specific operating systems and programs.
Budgeting and strong presentation experience.

Proven experience in consumer loan collections
Competitive Base Pay Range: $143,794.61 - 239,657.69 annually, dependent on relevant qualifications, plus an annual discretionary incentive plan and benefits package.
Where we’re located: 330 Union Ave, Olympia WA. Employees must reside and perform all work in the state of Washington. This is a hybrid position that blends working in-office and from home. Works onsite in Olympia Headquarters at least 2 occasions per week, Wednesdays and one other day per week, with flexibility to report onsite more often for business needs.
When you’d work: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:30 pm, full time minimum 40 hours per week, with scheduling flexibility to meet service needs for this Exempt position.
