Deputy Director and Title IX Officer - UC Merced (Merced)
The Deputy Director and Title IX Officer reports to the OPHD Director/Title IX Officer (Director). Under the Director's general direction, the incumbent is responsible for implementing and managing the complaint resolution processes when responding to reports of harassment and discrimination (including sexual harassment and sexual violence) based on all protected categories. The incumbent provides mentorship and support for members of the OPHD team and assists with developing local policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.Key Responsibilities:Case Management:
Together with the Response Team and Education Coordinator (RTEC), reviews and assigns incoming complaints of harassment and discrimination (including sexual harassment and violence). Monitors the OPHD caseload to ensure an even distribution of work and the assignment of cases to Complaint Resolution Officer/Investigator (CRO/I) specialty areas. Manages and audits the case management system and identifies best practices to improve the efficiency of processes and identify high-risk areas on campus. Co-chairs bi-weekly Case Management Teams with the RTEC. Assists with internal and external reporting obligations. Supports and mentors RTEC in case management.Investigations and Other Complaint Resolution Processes:
Works on the most complex and sensitive complaints, reports, alternative resolutions, and investigations. Provides guidance and support to CRO/Is to ensure thorough, impartial, fair, and timely investigations. This includes reviewing draft reports before submitting them to the Director to ensure well-written comprehensive investigation reports, identifying the issues, summarizing the evidence, and correlating findings to University policy. In addition, reviews investigation plans, including timelines, and ensures there are accurate and thorough records and notes for a well-documented investigatory process. Provides guidance and support to ensure thorough and timely inquiries and alternative resolutions. Ensures detailed and complete documentation and records of these processes. Provides consultations to campus partners, determines avenues for resolution, and assesses potential liability and risk areas. Implements supportive, interim, and remedial measures as appropriate. Ensures management corrective actions are in place following complex and/or politically sensitive investigations. Responds to inquiries and requests for information from state and federal agencies when necessary. Organizes the monthly investigator team meetings and training sessions for CRO/Is. Supports and mentors CRO/Is.Campuswide Training and Outreach:
Assists with developing and presenting training, including alternative training sessions, for the campus community on compliance with policies and procedures under OPHD’s purview. Collaborates with the Director, RTEC, and campus partners to assess OPHD's educational and training needs for specific units and the campus. Assists with developing local policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines. Reviews and advises on the content of the OPHD and associated websites. Supports and mentors RTEC in campuswide training and outreach efforts.OPHD Representative:
Represents OPHD on various campus and systemwide committees.The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $92,300 - $175,700. The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $110,000 - $133,000.
