This full-time role (M-F) plays a crucial part in ensuring the safety and compliance of new construction, renovations, alterations, additions, and repair projects across our vibrant community.
In this role, you’ll perform detailed electrical plan reviews to verify compliance with the National Electrical Code and ensure our community’s health and safety standards are met. You’ll also conduct code inspections across various trades—electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and building—protecting residents and visitors in all types of Vail buildings.

Key Responsibilities Include:
Electrical Code Expertise:
Interpret the National Electrical Code and other local building codes, ensuring every inspection meets safety and compliance standards.
Electrical Plan Reviews:
Conduct detailed plan examinations for commercial and residential projects to confirm code compliance for new builds, remodels, additions, and repairs.
Field Inspections:
Inspect construction projects for compliance across multiple disciplines (electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and building).
Safety & Compliance Investigations:
Respond to citizen concerns, investigate potential code violations, and post Stop Work Orders and Dangerous Building notices as necessary.
Collaboration & Service:
Work closely with team members and other departments, support the Town of Vail’s core values, and ensure excellent service to our community.
Daily Inspections & Permit Coordination:
Coordinate and schedule daily inspection requests across building, planning, and public works permits.

Skills / RequirementsIdeal Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to prepare and present technical documents on construction and code compliance issues, with expertise in electrical and construction industry standards. This role requires a sharp understanding of construction drawings and the ability to interpret complex documents related to electrical codes, building codes, and construction specifications.
Required Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
High school diploma required, with a minimum of four (4) years of experience in code enforcement, compliance, construction, project management, or a related technical field.
Licensing & Certifications:
Electrical Licensing:
Must hold and maintain a valid State of Colorado Journeyman or Master Electrician license.
Inspection Certifications:
Certification as an Electrical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, and Mechanical Inspector through the International Code Council (ICC) is required, or the ability to obtain within 18 months of hire.
Preferred Certifications:
Certification as an Electrical Plans Examiner and Building Inspector through the ICC is preferred, with the ability to obtain these certifications within 30 months of hire.
Driver’s License:
Must hold and maintain a valid State of Colorado driver’s license.
