AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Fulfill responsibilities as stated in the DOL Apprenticeship Program and become a skilled Journey person, certified by the DOL, and an A-Class Trades person within 4 years of training.Work progressively towards completing 4 years of training; including 6000 hrs on the job learning & a minimum of 576 hrs class room instructionMaintain a minimum 70% passing rateCommit to learning all aspects of Fabrication trades:

Measuring, layout, reading blueprintsProper use of learning a variety of tools for cutting, burning, bending, etc.Welding aluminum and/or steelPractice safe working habits when using power tools and machineryMiscellaneous tasks as directed by supervisor or instructorQUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:

Must be at least 18 years of ageCandidates with relevant work experience in a physically demanding environment OR who have successfully completed a relevant skilled trade training program preferredDemonstrate the motivation to continuously improve their knowledge/skillsHave the integrity to complete all assigned academic work independentlyDemonstrate a high degree of reliability, both in task accomplishment and time keepingAbility to measure using Metric and English systemKnowledge of shipyard terminology such as general ship structure and vessel layout preferred.The ability to understand directions and follow instructions; both oral and writtenDemonstrated applied math skills equivalent ACT WorkKeys Level 3 working knowledge of power tools and machineryPhysical RequirementsStanding: 25%Sitting: 15%Walking about: 60%Lift and Carry: 50lbs. for 10% of the dayHazards: Climbing ladders, accessing confined spacesWorking Conditions: General shipbuilding environment, loud, dusty, hot/coldTOOLS:
