Job Description
Candidates for the position should be prepared to lead the department's efforts in research, education, mentoring, service, and outreach, and contribute to further advancing the collaborative culture of the department. The Department Head will serve as an integral member of the College of Engineering leadership team, serving as the department's advocate to college and university administration and external stakeholders, and representative for the department at venues such as national and international meetings and conferences. This position has significant supervisory and management responsibilities, including substantive oversight over the department budget, an expectation to grow internal and external partnerships, including philanthropic opportunities, and positioning the department to align with college and university strategic plans. Candidates should have professional achievements commensurate with appointment at the rank of Full Professor with Tenure in Engineering Education. Although predominantly an administrative and leadership position, the EngE Department Head is expected to engage with the engineering education discipline by supporting the department's activities in teaching, research, and/or professional service.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must hold a doctorate in engineering, engineering education, or a related field and must qualify at the time of appointment for tenure at the rank of full professor in engineering education. In addition, candidates should have: demonstrated intellectual leadership and administrative skills in an academic/university environment or equivalent; a clear vision for the future of the department and field of engineering education; ability to communicate effectively to a range of stakeholders; dedication to the instructional mission of the university; interest in the development and expansion of sponsored research programs; an established record of professional activities and leadership in professional organizations; and experience in enhancing the representation and success of underrepresented populations.
Preferred Qualifications
Distinction in universitylevel research and teaching;| Established record of scholarship, administrative ability, and academic leadership;| Demonstrated understanding of the field of engineering education; | Clearly articulated vision for the future of engineering education as a field of research and practice.
