Department of Respiratory Medicine

at

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center , is a state-of-the-art facility, offering a multitude of comprehensive services to meet the various respiratory needs of our patients.. Our specialists and respiratory therapists work together to diagnose and treat a wide variety of sleep-related disorders in adults and children, including sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and shift work sleep disorders.

We have a full-time

Respiratory Therapist

opportunity in our

Sleep Lab . The Respiratory Therapist will perform various polysomnograms and other sleep disorder tests and consult with other health care practitioners in the management for prevention of patient cardiopulmonary disorders.

Therapists will greet and orient the patient to the Sleep Center, explain the procedures and what the patient should expect during the night.Apply electrodes according to AASM standards. Perform physiologic calibrations to assure proper signals and make adjustments as necessary.Perform routine mask fitting for CPAP titration patients.Perform sleep testing following protocols. Make adjustments to the leads, and assist patients during the night as needed.Use age-appropriate interventions and education. Perform data acquisition while monitoring, make necessary adjustments to assure artifact-free signals.Document observations such as sleep stages, clinical events, changes in PAP pressure, and other significant events.Perform required data entry, routine equipment care and other duties as assigned by the supervisor.Score records using AASM protocols.Requirements

Associate degree required; bachelor's degree

preferredGraduate of an approved program for Respiratory TherapyCompletion of a Sleep Lab course/clinicalNYS Respiratory Therapist LicenseRegistered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC)Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (BRPT)
