General Statement of Duties
School-based compliance support position which coordinates special education services for students with disabilities. Coordinates meetings, testing and transportation for individual students. Provides training and support to special education and general education staff in special education procedures, regulations and assessments. Promotes research-based educational practices for special education students in classrooms. Communicates within and outside of the school system; requires handling of sensitive information and/or dealing tactfully with others.
Essential Duties
Monitors and ensures adherence to policy, procedures, timelines and regulations regarding the special education process, i.e., evaluations, eligibility, IEP development, Manifestation Determination Reviews, Functional Behavioral Assessments, Behavior Intervention Plans, etc.Runs weekly building level compliance reports using VA IEP. Follows up with case managers and administrators regarding identified items.Maintains school calendar for IEP meetings (initial, annual review and revisions), and eligibility meetings; Coordinates evaluations to remain in compliance with federal timelines and requirements.Attends initial eligibility meetings as the special education teacher.Coordinates special education transportation, including summer Extended School Year requests.Trains and assists teachers with the writing of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIP) and assists with efforts in the school to employ positive behavioral interventions and supports in efforts to reduce suspensions of students with disabilities.Maintains knowledge of SOL and alternative assessment (eligibility requirements) and provides training and support to teachers whose students participate in the Virginia Alternate Assessment Program.Collaborates with the Testing Coordinator to ensure all students with disabilities receive accommodations as provided for by their IEP in division and state assessments.Enters data and/or supervises data entry into special education student information system; monitors data entered by other HCPS staff for accuracy and compliance; creates and analyzes reports as needed or required.Assists school administrators in developing a master schedule that addresses the services and needs of students with IEPs. Serves on the school leadership team.Provides support to instructional assistants in the areas of developing relationships with students and teachers, data collection, and behavior management.Supports educational evaluations as part of the triennial eligibility process when a teacher is a provisionally licensed teacher or conducts educational evaluations in the event of a board sub. Complete expedited educational evaluations at the request of the Director of Exceptional Education.Maintains effective communication with central office special education specialists, coordinators, and other support staff.Facilitates building level December 1 Child Count.Maintains a student caseload and acts as a case manager in alignment with Virginia Special Education RegulationsReview building IEP drafts and progress reports. Provide feedback to building special education teachers for correction.Facilitates and coordinates summer IEP meetings as a case manager.Maintains and supports school cumulative file compliance for all students with disabilities. Coordinates record requests from the Director of Exceptional Education.Based upon individual school need, incumbent may be required to provide supplemental professional development and support for new special education staff; deliver specially designed instruction in the event of a vacancy or absence (not to exceed 10 hours per week); set up building compliance process; plan instructional program; demonstrate skills; assign and evaluate coursework; collect and analyze student progress data; records progress and issues reports to students, parents and administrators.Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of five years teaching experience in special education in grades 6-12. Valid Virginia Teaching license. Master's degree in special education preferred. Previous school based or division leadership preferred. Successful candidate has experience leading professional development related to special education.
Additional Information
The minimum salary for this 11-month/ 239-day position is $63,921 with a bachelors or $66,989 with a masters.
The annual salary for this position will be prorated based upon the official start date.
