Job Description
Minimum Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).Experience
Three (3) years of experience in the elevators/escalators field to include, at least 6 months experience performing and/or witnessing elevator/escalator inspections.Certification/Licensure
Must acquire within twelve (12) months of hire, National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities (NAESA) QEI-1 certification or equivalent certification recognized in District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia jurisdictionsPossession of a valid motor vehicle operator¿s license.Preferred
Experience
Experience in the maintenance, repair, and inspection of elevator and/or escalator equipment
Certification/Licensure
National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities (NAESA) QEI-1 certification or equivalent certification recognized in District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia jurisdiction
Medical Group
Satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this position, if required. The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of this position either with or without reasonable accommodations.
Mission Essential Designation
In accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority¿s Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.
Summary
The Maintenance Supervisor, Elevator/Escalator supervises elevator and escalator mechanics and the effective and efficient testing, diagnosis, problem identification and problem resolution relating to elevators and escalators.
Job Duties
Supervises personnel, inspects scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of elevator and escalator repair work. Ensures quality of workmanship, completeness, and compliance with specifications, engineering orders, escalator/elevator codes, layouts and standard maintenance procedures. Prepares accurate and concise oral/written reports on the findings, deficiencies and recommendations for corrective actions, to ensure preventive, scheduled and corrective maintenance is executed safely and efficiently.Supervises subordinates which includes recommending applicant selection, disciplinary actions, effective resolution of grievances, assigning duties, directing work, approving leave requests and timesheets, and ensuring effective and appropriate subordinate training is provided. Guarantees properly skilled employees are obtained and retained.Responds, in a timely manner, to elevator and escalator accidents, critical equipment outages, and electrical equipment shock reported during and outside of normal working hours. Conducts investigations and provides timely written reports of the investigations ensuring safety and alignment with WMATA's performance goals.Directs and works with contractors, ensuring adherence to maintenance procedures including but not limited to monitoring technical code adherence, contract worker performance and quality of work.Other Duties
Operates Authority vehicle between work locations to perform job duties as required .Maintains and promotes awareness and accountability with safety policies and procedures while performing job functions. Promotes a positive safety culture and encourages reporting of safety concerns consistent with our Agency Safety Plan, other regulatory requirements within the Safety Management System and just culture principles.The functions listed are not intended to limit specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position.
