OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
To provide a safe and clean learning environment by maintaining high standards of safety, cleanliness and efficiency. Takes pride in having the school be a beautiful and welcoming learning environment for students, staff, and others.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1.Maintains building and premises to be neat and clean at all times. Keeps grounds free from rubbish.
2.Ensures that door and window systems are functioning properly.
3.Shovels and sands/salts sidewalks as appropriate.
4.Move furniture, equipment and supplies as required for school activities.
5.Reports to and remains at work per stated work hours; remains on school premises during shift.
6.Ensures that the building is opened/closed properly and in a timely manner. Ensure that all doors and windows are secured and designated lights are turned off.
7.Cleans corridors (sweep and mop floors, clear area of rubbish), bathrooms (scrub and disinfect bathroom toilets and sinks, mop and disinfect floors) and corridor drinking fountains (scrub and disinfect) daily. Cleans entrance areas daily (sweep/vacuum/mop entrance areas, clear area of rubbish). Washes entrance windows at least weekly.
8.In the rooms/areas for which s/he is responsible for cleaning, cleans the chalkboard/whiteboard, sink, vacuums or sweeps the floor every day, and cleans the countertops once per week.
9.Reports damage of school property immediately upon being known.
10.Make minor repairs as directed, report major repairs to Head Custodian.
11.Provide assistance to after-school-hours groups who are using the building if needed.
12.Complies with local, state and federal ordinances for storage and disposal of trash and waste.
13.Completes all District compliance training as required.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Perform other duties as directed by the Superintendent, Director of Buildings and Grounds, Principals, and Head or Assistant Head Custodian.
EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION/ CERTIFICATES/ QUALIFICATIONS
1.Graduation from high school or technical school or comparable experience.
2.Working knowledge of the methods, tools, mechanical equipment and techniques used in custodial work; working knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions and fire and sanitation codes.
3.Ability to operate various types of power and hand machinery and tools.
4.Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions/directives with a minimum of direction.
5.Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive public, student, and co-worker relationships.
6. Clearance of FBI Background check required.
7. TB test within 90 days of hire date; Physical Exam within last year of hire date.
8. Valid First Aid/CPR Cards preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Moderate degree of physical stamina and fitness with occasional lifting up to 75 pounds, and to assist in lifting objects in excess of 75 pounds. Ability to move freely to various locations within the classrooms, offices and other community settings. Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and bending. Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Hourly Rate: $17.68/hourSalary and fringe benefits will be established in accordance with the Winnetka Public Schools School Board and the SEIU #73 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
