ResponsibilitiesOversee and maintain all aspects of the Customs Brokerage DepartmentWork with peers, Branch Manager and Corporate to ensure all KPI's are met at both the Department and FTE levelsManage import compliance audit program in the Branch and implement department policies, controls, and procedures to assure complianceConduct audits and assess import compliance and foreign trade zone operations with US Customs laws and regulationsStay abreast of current import CHB/CBP and other government agency regulations to ensure complianceInterface with government agencies and maintains positive relationshipsMaintain customer bond and power of attorney recordsPerform post entry work required to correct errors prior to filingCreate draft for a binding ruling requested on a client's commodity; prepare written submission on behalf of clientsTrain and develop staff by providing interpretation and guidance of CBP and other government agency regulations and ensure compliance with US specific importing regulations, monitor productivity and audit accuracy and timeliness of entriesFacilitate new business acquisition and account development related to full range of customs servicesProvide pricing and solutions to clients and salespeopleParticipate in sales and client meetingsEnsure maximum client satisfaction through interaction with clients and other company business unitsAssure seamless new customer onboarding set up and processPlan and establish customized logistics programs for new customers as neededConduct Customs Compliance auditDaily responsibilities including but not limited to: Statements, Bonds, Penalties, New IOR/Consignee/Customer/Vendor profile creation, CBP employee updates, ACH management, tracking Arrival Notices/Invoicing/Entries/ReconciliationPeople Responsibilities
Allocate workloads within team to ensure smooth operations during peak activityCoach, mentor and educate colleaguesDeliver training and onboarding for new hires per the company requirement standardsPeriodically communicate department goals and expectations with team to ensure buy-in and accountabilityQualifications
Must have a valid U.S. Customs Brokerage License. Customs Compliance Specialist (CCS) certification preferredFive or more years of related experience in global logistics, entry writing, import/export compliance, commodity controls, regulatory, and security initiativesProven experience in a supervisory/management positionStrong problem solving and analytical skills; general mathematical skillsFamiliarity with international shipping and receiving processesUnderstanding of Tariff and Product ClassificationWorking knowledge of shipping systems and automated toolsAbility to follow oral and written communicationPrior experience in brokerage, freight forwarding, foreign distribution, and complianceExperience in control of documents and material trackingMust be PC literate and possess good organizational and communication skillsExcellent time management skills and the ability to organize his/her own team effectively and efficientlyAble to motivate and direct staff and identify the best people for the jobAble to lead a team and be sensitive to the needs of othersGood written communications skills are also very importantCritical thinking skills and problem-solving techniquesA degree in business, supply chain management, finance, or geography is seen as an advantageBenefits
