Position Summary
The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a full-time candidate as Research Coordinator, who is detailed-oriented and results-driven to join our team for a unique opportunity. The position will support several research projects that collectively focus on studying the implementation of cancer prevention services (i.e. colorectal cancer screening, cervical cancer screening, and promoting vaccination) in New Mexico and beyond. The selected candidate will be at the forefront of managing meaningful and engaging projects within the community and important stakeholders from the clinical community. Day to day activities will include participation in the design and implementation of the intervention(s) for community and clinical benefit, recruitment efforts for research projects, formal and informal writing and presentations when needed in the community, and the overall day-to-day oversight of the projects.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of research study protocols
• Implement and execute the study protocols, and oversee all aspects of the data collection and data management
• Oversee and effectively manage compliance with the research requirements at the Department and the Cancer Center level
• Recruit research participants and community and clinical stakeholders at the local and regional levels
• Recruit, instruct, and oversee student research employees and volunteers
• Develop logistics and research flow sheet (recruitment, data collection, data management, educational sessions)
• Interact regularly with faculty and project coordinators regarding the individual project(s) and provide reporting as required
• Complete start-up initiatives as required by the individual project(s)
• Experience with organizing, running, and debriefing meetings both in person and on Zoom
The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center is the Official Cancer Center of New Mexico and the only National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mile radius. Its more than 136 board-certified oncology specialty physicians include cancer surgeons in every specialty (abdominal, thoracic, bone and soft tissue, neurosurgery, genitourinary, gynecology, and head and neck cancers), adult and pediatric hematologists/medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, and radiation oncologists. They, along with more than 600 other cancer healthcare professionals (nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, navigators, psychologists and social workers), provide treatment to 65% of New Mexico's cancer patients from all across the state and partner with community health systems statewide to provide cancer care closer to home. They treated almost 15,000 patients in more than 100,000 ambulatory clinic visits in addition to in-patient hospitalizations at UNM Hospital. A total of nearly 1,855 patients participated in cancer clinical trials testing new cancer treatments that include tests of novel cancer prevention strategies and cancer genome sequencing. The more than 123 cancer research scientists affiliated with the UNMCCC were awarded $38.2 million in federal and private grants and contracts for cancer research projects. Since 2015, they have published nearly 1000 manuscripts, and promoting economic development, they filed 136 new patents and launched 10 new biotechnology start-up companies. Finally, the physicians, scientists and staff have provided education and training experiences to more than 500 high school, undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral fellowship students in cancer research and cancer health care delivery. Conditions of EmploymentSuccessful candidate must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Additional health screenings may be required, dependent on the nature of the research conducted, as determined by Employee Occupational Health Services.Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
• Ability to multitask and effectively adapt to changing priorities for the multiple research projects
• Ability to effectively communicate with community partners and clinical faculty
• Ability to provide oversight over multiple tasks in a research project so that the project is completed in a timely and effective manner
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Ability to work proficiently in Microsoft Office products (i.e Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook)
• Knowledge of REDCap and Dedoose
• Ability to find and summarize existing studies on relevant topics
Additional RequirementsFinalists should be prepared to provide official educational transcripts if selected for hire.
