General Description
The Driver & Fleet Coordinator is responsible for safely transporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to and from medical appointments, day programs, community outings, and other designated locations. This role requires a reliable, compassionate individual who is sensitive to the needs of individuals with IDD and ensures their comfort and safety during transportation. In addition to driving duties, the position includes minimal fleet coordination responsibilities to maintain the safety and functionality of the organization's vehicles.
Job Duties
Provide safe and timely transportation for residents to medical appointments, social outings, day programs, and other scheduled activities, ensuring residents arrive on time and are well cared for during transport.Assist residents with boarding and exiting vehicles, ensuring the use of seat belts, wheelchair locks, and other safety equipment.Plan and follow the most efficient routes to destinations while considering time constraints and road conditions.Maintain cleanliness and orderliness inside the vehicle. Perform regular checks to ensure that vehicles are stocked with necessary supplies (e.g., first aid kits, cleaning supplies).Monitor the physical and emotional well-being of residents during transportation, reporting any concerns or incidents to management.Maintain regular communication with group home staff regarding residents' transportation schedules, changes, and any unexpected events.Schedule and coordinate routine maintenance (e.g., oil changes, tire rotations) and safety inspections for all fleet vehicles, ensuring that all vehicles are in good working condition.Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, repairs, mileage, and inspections, ensuring compliance with state and federal transportation regulations.Report any vehicle accidents, mechanical issues, or incidents involving the residents promptly to management and ensure proper documentation.Periodically inspect safety features in vehicles, such as seat belts, wheelchair lifts, and other safety devices, to ensure they are functioning properly.Assist in keeping vehicle registration and insurance documents up-to-date.Other duties as assigned.Knowledge & Abilities
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance.Ability to operate wheelchair lifts and secure passengers safely.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.Ability to lift and assist residents with mobility challenges, including wheelchairs.Ability to drive for extended periods.Must be able to bend, lift, and secure equipment as needed.Education, Licenses, & Training
High school diploma or equivalent.Prior experience driving for a group home, healthcare setting, or transporting individuals with disabilities is preferred.Familiarity with transporting individuals using wheelchairs or other mobility devices is a plus.Valid driver's license in the state of Maryland with a clean driving record.Shift
Monday - Friday 7am - 3:30pmMust be able to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
