Service Management and Infrastructure is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to build and optimize a stack of critical components that handle robot-cloud communications at Zoox.
Zoox is building a future for Riders, not drivers. At the heart of this vision is our robotaxi service, which relies on real-time communication, over cellular and cloud networks to our fleet of autonomous vehicles. This role is concerned about the performance, reliability, scalability, privacy, security and observability of the involved services in this link.

In this role, you will:
Own a critical link between our robots and the cloudPrioritize safety first by understanding, contributing to and executing on requirements from our safety teamsContribute to long term architecture initiatives that address future requirementsPerforming root cause analysis on connectivity loss events and communicating learnings and actionsWork closely with technical product management to contribute to team roadmapsDefine and own Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Indicators (SLIs) that accurately reflect the health of the robot-cloud linkCollaborate with engineers across the organization who rely and build tools upon our robot-cloud linkQualifications
5+ years C++ experienceStrong understanding of networking protocols, ideally UDPExperience working with highly resilient distributed systemsExcellent communication skillsBonus Qualifications
Middleware such as Data Distribution Service (DDS) and/or Robot Operating System (ROS)Real-time streaming distributed systems for roboticsCellular connectivityTypeScript and Node.js backendsPython scriptsCloud infrastructure and tooling, such as Kubernetes, Terraform, Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Compensation:
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $195,000 to $245,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
