Reports to: Lead Custodian

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary: The Custodian is responsible for maintaining an attractive, sanitary and safe facility for students, staff and public. The custodian also is responsible for providing equipment and furniture for reserved meetings, classroom activities and events as well as minimizing property damages, loss and liability exposure.

Essential Functions: Arrange equipment and furnishings (e.g. furniture arrangements, bleachers, stages, etc.) to provide adequate arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events Assemble furniture and equipment to provide materials in useable form Assist other personnel, as may be required, to ensure an efficient and effective work environment Attend in service training (e.g. blood borne pathogens, cleaning solvents, floor care, first aid, etc.) to receive information on new and/or improved procedures Clean assigned facilities (e.g. offices, restrooms, corridors, carpets, windows, walls, board room area, conference rooms, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, safe and attractive environment Communicate issues about safety and/or proper maintenance of facilities to supervisor, students, site staff and others to provide information, obtain repairs, ensure safety and/or schedule special cleaning Deliver a variety of items (e.g. supplies, packages, furniture, etc.) to distribute materials to the appropriate parties Inform personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders to provide necessary information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with health and safety regulations Inspect school or Division facilities to ensure that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifying/reporting necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc. Maintain supplies and equipment (e.g. cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuum, mops, etc.) to ensure the availability of items required to properly maintain facilities Perform minor maintenance and repairs (e.g. change light bulbs, replace washers, oil doors, etc.) to ensure safe and efficient use of facilities Page 2 of 3 Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit Prepare facilities for daily operations (e.g. opening gates, building access doors, disarming security systems, raising flag, minor repairs, etc.) to ensure facilities are operational and safe for occupancy Repair furniture and equipment as maybe required (e.g. faucets, toilets, replace lights, etc.) to ensure that items are available and in safe working condition Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, injured and ill students (day custodian), unauthorized persons, alarms, etc.) to take appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and maintain a functioning educational environment Secure facilities and grounds (e.g. lock doors, turn off lights, take down flags, etc.) to minimize property damage, equipment loss and potential liability to the Division.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Performing multiple, non-technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions; operating equipment used in industrial maintenance including electrical cleaning equipment, common tools, etc.; adhering to safety practices; knowledge of basic math skills including calculations using fractions, percents and/or ratios; excellent written and oral communication; ability to read and understand routine documents; understand complex, multistep instructions; knowledge of methods of industrial cleaning, safety practices and procedures; ability to schedule activities, collate data, consider a number of factors when using equipment; flexibility to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods; utilize a variety of job-related equipment; problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans and for use of equipment; ability to adapt to changing work priorities; communicate with diverse groups, meet deadlines and schedules, work as part of a team, work with constant interruptions

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Previous job-related experience is preferred.

Physical Conditions and Nature of Work: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands including significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job required 10% sitting, 30% walking, and 60% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and some hazardous conditions.

Evaluation: The Custodian is evaluated by the Lead Custodian.

Contract Length: 12 months/260 days. Some positions may have a different contract length and will be discussed during the hiring process.
