Job Role Summary

The Nurse Practitioner - Infectious Diseases works as an educator, advocate and care provider and is responsible for the care and well-being of HIV infected patients with independent oversight of a large panel of patients. In addition, provides care to non-HIV patients to provide Pre-Exposure Prophalaxis (PrEP) and Nonoccupational Post Exposure Prophylaxis (nPEP). Also, the NP will focus on collaborative care of general Infectious Diseases patients by expanding into seeing non-HIV Infectious Diseases patients, such as osteomyelitis, follow up of hospital discharge, etc.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Utilize Special Medicine staff during clinic hours and respond directly to patient calls regarding medical concerns, and medication refillsComplete prior authorizations for medications utilized in specialty and primary care services for patients receiving care under the IDCReview labs and diagnostic testing related to HIV and infectious diseases specialty and primary careEvaluate and revise patient plans of care with changing diagnostic results and individual needs.Collaborate with ID staff physicians or other providers as necessaryNotify patients of changes to care plan and diagnostic resultsCommunicate quality assurance data to the IDC data manager and assist with monitoring and reportingCollaborate with interdisciplinary team (social workers, nurses, interpreters, pharmacists, etc.) to evaluate needs, determine supports and initiate appropriate wraparound services.Precept NP students by providing clinic education and support during NP students' clinical rotations in the Infectious Diseases Clinic and provide clinical education for MATEC (Midwest AIDS Training and Education Center) participants.Maintains appropriate certifications and pursues scholarship in evidence based practices for patient care across the continuum of HI, primary and preventive care and other Infectious Diseases.

Minimum Qualifications, Training, and Experience

Expertise in the practice of nursing validated by five years of current clinical practice including two years in the area of specialty practice.AACRN (Advanced AIDS Certified Registered Nurse) certification
