Zumiez is seeking someone lead our Materials Development department, supporting both the men's and women's fabric development for our Product + Brand Services department. We make tons of cool stuff, and this is your chance to get in here and be a part of the cool!

The primary focus of this role is to manage the materials development process for the PBS group. This includes extensive analysis of existing materials, development of trend and price-conscious new materials, and ensuring consistency across factories and brands. The Materials Developer is responsible for the department's adherence to time management, calendar management, and meeting deadlines. This role involves adhering to existing processes and policies and improving, creating, or streamlining them as needed in response to growth and changes.

The Materials Developer communicates effectively and collaboratively with design, production, the product development director, and overseas vendors. The role includes sourcing on-trend and budget-conscious textiles, maintaining accurate electronic and physical materials libraries, and developing sustainable materials. It requires clearly communicating company expectations and requirements for eco-qualities during the initial development stage to ensure success later in the cycle.

Additionally, the Materials Developer develops and manages team members, including workload management, timecard reviews and approvals, goal setting, annual reviews, and mentorship. This position invests in the growth of team members through education and leadership, emphasizing Zumiez cultural values and teaching and learning through VVW (Verbal, Visual, Written) methods.

Principal Accountabilities:

DEVELOPMENT:Attend milestone design meetings, take notes, lead execution of development cycle each seasonProactively prepare multiple trend and margin right optionsProactively research sustainable options for fundamental fabricationsKeep abreast of market trends and new technologies relative to materials.TRACKING AND SUPPORT

Meet established due dates based off multiple department calendars.Be the point person for all departments regarding materials development status.Maintain multiple season tracking reportsDeveloping and maintaining strong partnerships with internal and external partnersTrack development status of all materials directly with overseas vendors.Communicate materials development status to Materials Developer & overseas vendorsMonitor and ensure compliance to Materials and Private Brands timelines.Organize and maintain materials in the raw materials library as well as PLM.Manage & maintain Fabric, Trim and Wash librariesCreation & maintenance of Digital librariesRequired Skills & Experience

At least 3 years industry experience working in a development/textile based role.Proficient knowledge of apparel fabrications, characteristics, performance and textile compatibility.Proficient knowledge of specialty wash, dye and print processes. Competency test will be given during interview.College Degree in Apparel related majors, encompassing Textile Science, or the equivalent in experience.Highly organized, detail oriented, data driven, & analytical.Effective, Consistent, Clear Communication with an understanding of working with different types of personalities is a must!Proficient with business software, such as Excel, Outlook and PowerPointSeriously. You need to be proficient in Excel. You will LIVE in this program.Proficient in use of Adobe Creative SuiteAbility to find solutions, work collaboratively across teams and work well under pressure in an ever- changing environment.Excellent written and verbal communication skillsSense of humor and fun. Bonus if you love animals.Travel Requirements:

Potential domestic & international travel no more than 1-2 weeks per year.PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT* Ability to sit in stationary position in an office environment for extended periods of time and work on a PC without limitations* Constantly positions self to maintain computers and desk equipment* Ability to move in an office environment in order to access files and gather information, including use of step ladder.* Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery* The person in this position frequently communicates with customers/colleague inquires. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.* Frequently moves office equipment weighing up to 50 pounds* Must be able to distinguish colors and inspect materials on product
