WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This is a hybrid position within our Agribusiness Underwriting team. This position is open to working for our Spokane, WA office.

JOB OVERVIEW:

This position represents the highest level of technical underwriting competency in the region and is responsible for leading and directing the regional underwriting team(s) in a virtual and office setting work environment. Underwriting authority is delegated by the Regional Field Executive and mutually agreed to by the Director of AG Underwriting and the VP- Chief Underwriting Officer. The Regional Underwriting Manager works closely with the Director of AG Underwriting and is responsible for compliance, underwriting integrity, service standards, and production. The position provides review, mentoring and technical assistance and training to regional Agribusiness Underwriters Team Leaders and their underwriters in the interpretation of underwriting policies and procedures. The Regional Underwriting Manager may review and underwrite the most complex technical risks and grants underwriting authority to all underwriters in the region. This position assists in the development of the regional business strategy, develops metrics, and determines what products and services best support the regional territory both internally and in the field.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Provides technical assistance and review of the most complex agribusiness line risks to ensure compliance and consistency in farm and agri-business lines underwriting practices throughout the region. Reviews and approves, modifies, or declines complex and/or unusual risks, which have been referred by subordinate underwriting staff. Manages underwriting personnel in the placement of facultative reinsurance through Agribusiness underwriting. Utilizes technical manuals and guides to research information.

* Conducts audits and analysis to determine patterns and trends that must be corrected or investigated. The Manager reviews underwriting performance to ensure compliance with CIG underwriting policies and procedures. Monitors audit results to determine needs and addresses deficiencies in a timely manner.

* The Regional Underwriting Manager will support efforts to market CIG products and programs to agencies and direct production according to CIG objectives. This position will also provide technical training in products and programs for agents as needed. The Regional Underwriting Manager will be required to travel as needed based on needs of the Agribusiness unit.

* Evaluates current Agribusiness lines policies and procedures with regard to rating and underwriting; determines if modifications should be recommended and implements approved changes. Composes written and/or presents oral recommendations to Senior and Executive Management for review and determination. Plans and carries out implementation of changes in current policies and procedures. Monitors legislative developments and industry trends to identify issues, which may affect CIG operations.

* Communicates job expectations and provides guidance and evaluation of individual performance.

* Applies corporate management guidelines in administering performance evaluations, salary increases, disciplinary action, and administration of employee benefits. Uses appropriate discretion and confidentiality in handling individual employee issues.

* Coordinates with the Director of AG Underwriting to assist in the evaluation and implementation of process improvement efforts regarding systems, workflow methods and underwriting procedures and training to ensure productivity, efficiency and ease-of-doing-business for staff and agents.

* Supervises or personally completes special projects and reports as requested by management or other CIG staff, as required. Composes narrative, statistical, and financial reports as directed or as needed. Works with underwriting team and agency partners to validate proposed insuring products and new classes of business and the impact it has on the current book and future production. Conducts or supervises staff in the implementation or completion of special projects. Analyzes a variety of data (numeric and narrative) and formulates recommendations, status, and other responses as directed or as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

* College degree, Bachelors preferred, or equivalent experience.

* Ten plus years of progressively challenging insurance carrier experience in commercial/agriculture lines underwriting property, general liability, and auto products.

* Proven experience and leadership skills including three to five years of management and supervision. Ability to develop talent, mentor subordinates and manage performance.

* Knowledge and risk selection experience involving high value or complex exposures.

* Comprehensive knowledge of DOI regulations and pending legislative issues.

* Commercial underwriting procedures, regulations, products, and rating plans (ISO or similar).

* Effective management skills to motivate train and develop subordinate staff.

* Underwriting and marketing philosophy and procedure.

* Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.

* Knowledge of social, economic, and competitive aspects of underwriting territories.

* Effectively negotiate with and influence others with ability to exchange and information through oral and written presentation

* Effectively interact with others in order to accomplish work responsibilities and objectives

* Analyze problems and develop effective, rational solutions

* Correlate risk factors to underwriting standards to determine acceptance of risk

* CPCU certification is preferred.

Salary Range: $95,825 - $158,111

The salary range listed here has been provided to comply with local regulations and represents a potential base salary range for this role. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range above or below, depending on experience and location. We look at compensation for each individual and base our offer on your unique qualifications, experience, and expected contributions. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation in addition to base salary, such as benefits and bonus programs.
