Your Opportunity
Reporting to the Senior Practice Leader, the role of the Water Resources Team Lead is to lead and provide support to a team of talented water resources professionals, civil engineers, and design technologists. The role will also require the individual to undertake business development activities, manage project teams, engage in assignments that are more advanced in nature, as well as provide technical guidance/mentoring to junior engineers and technologists. Support and augment ongoing and active water resources projects including projects on the Texas Coast and with Regional River Authorities. The ideal candidate will have 8 to 15 years of work experience directly related to Water Resources.
Your Key Responsibilities
Contributing to and leading business development activities, including proposals, pre-qualifications, and relationship building with clients and prospective clients
Providing supervision, training, technical direction and mentoring to junior and intermediate level staff.
Support the growth of our local water resources team.
Develop and maintain positive client relationships, including seeking opportunities for new business and growing key accounts.
Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects, as well as perform reviews of work performed by others to ensure accuracy and completeness, standard of care, and compliance with standard practices.
Provide industry leadership through professional organizations including publishing papers and presentations, and elevating Stantec’s brand in the Water Resource Sector.
Responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting and coordinating the technical aspects of assigned projects.
Collaborate with and advise other team members while working on projects.
Responsible for preparing plans and reports, writing proposals, budget monitoring and trend tracking.
Ensures effective communication and coordination on projects between other project participants, including biologists, landscape architects, engineers, environmental scientists, contractors, and clients.
Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Support and ensure implementation of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work and coordinate with HSE professionals during the execution of all phases of project planning and implementation.
This position is part of a larger team with opportunities to support multiple Stantec offices.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Have existing relationships at the senior level of the target client base.
Must have strong oral and written communication skills, and be customer focused to understand and appropriately respond to client’s business needs.
Work under minimal supervision to manage multiple water related projects, including the management of existing client relationships and bringing in new clients.
Execute projects as Project Manager, Project Technical Lead in a senior technical and/or management capacity.
Perform on technically complex projects and acts as a technical resource by providing guidance to staff.
Build and maintain productive professional and personal networking relationships within their technical team.
Support marketing and business development activities in positioning for potential projects, writing proposals or technical portions of multidisciplinary proposals, participating in client interviews, and supporting negotiations for project contracts.
Assign, review, and evaluate work for technical accuracy and completeness; and advise on technical problems.
Must demonstrate the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks and safety appropriately, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
Must demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
Project and task management experience with strong attention to detail.
Effective in relationship building with direct reports, peers, internal and external clients.
Working understanding of policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training (as required).
Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s or higher (preferred) in Civil Engineering, or related field.
Minimum of eight (8) years and maximum of fifteen (15) years of related work experience in water resource projects (flood modeling, flood control, river restoration and nature-based solutions, dams and levees, green infrastructure, and stormwater management)
