Cox Communications is searching for a Lead Network Engineer to join the Core Design Engineering team. This role will be responsible for network design and contributing to the strategic evolution of the Cox Communications Core network. In this role, the individual will be a subject matter expert in various aspects of the Backbone, Metro, and Access aggregation networks. A successful candidate will possess advanced skills in Design & Strategy leveraging in depth knowledge and experience working in Networking and Operations. The following are examples of projects and initiatives that this role would contribute to, champion, and lead in most cases: Holistic Protocol Machinery Evolution (LDP/RSVP to Segment Routing) Streaming Telemetry, Analytics, and Intent Based Networking (Visibility & Proactive Network Health) Virtual Route Reflector Architecture Access aggregation for various technologies (xPON, DOCSIS/vCMTS, Fixed Wireless, etc.) Internet and Routing Security (RPKI, IRR, Prefix Filtering, TCP-AO, GTSM, etc.) Knowledge, Scope & Impact Recognized subject matter expert across multiple technical domains. Focus is on problems that have a direct effect on major segments or enterprise-wide business programs and results. Frequently called upon to apply/demonstrate mastery of existing and emerging technologies, practices, and processes. Exercises technical expertise in directing major projects or programs with full competency resulting in significant business impact on the company. Displays the highest level of technical and organizational critical thinking, analysis and problem-solving bringing successful resolution to high-impact, complex, and/or cross-department problems. Makes prompt, sound decisions when faced with complex and often contradictory alternatives that result in successful outcomes. Contributes to complex designs and/or problems outside of primary technical expertise and across organizational and managerial boundaries. Champions innovative approaches and challenges existing approaches. Qualifications: Minimum: Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 6 years' experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and 4 years' experience; a Ph.D. and 1 year of experience; or 18 years' experience in a related field 5 years in architecture design, development and implementation (business, data, application and technical) 5 years of experience in network troubleshooting and diagnostics. 5 years of experience with networking technologies from Cisco, Juniper, Arista, and Nokia. 5 years of experience with IP network design and management. Experience researching and enhancing Internet/Routing security best practices, common attack types, and detection / prevention methods. Demonstrable experience of analyzing and interpreting system, security, and application logs to diagnose faults and spot abnormal behaviors. Expertise in designing and implementing complex IP routing scenarios (Including: RSVP-TE, SR, MP-BGP, IS-IS, EVPN, PIM-SSM). Experience in systems monitoring of large networks. Experience developing scripts (ansible, python) for playbook automation, orchestration and/or data collection. Knowledge of SDN principles and technologies such as OpenFlow, Service Chaining, NFV, OpenStack, Controllers, Orchestration, SD-WAN, Intent Based Networking (IBN), etc. Experience in leading complex project execution teams, ability to clearly communicate requirements, delegate work activities, and provide clarity of goals and priorities in a manner that assures timely execution of projects. Demonstrated expertise of modern router and switch architectures and network design (control plane and forwarding plane separation, switch fabric design, egress queuing, IP lookup algorithms, traffic engineering, protection mechanisms, and capacity planning). In depth understanding of TCP/IP (IPv4 and IPv6), RFC1918, and Carrier Grade NAT (CGN). Experience in data communications and networking standards (e.g., MEF, ANSI, IETF, IEEE). Experience working with managers and customers, receiving requirements, and converting them into actions. Experience collaborating and working closely with cross-functional teams - data scientists, engineers, business and solution architects and partners to identify gaps and structure problems. Confident presence in client facing situations, polished verbal and written presentations, effective interpersonal skills, and strong collaboration skills, to partner effectively with teams throughout organization Preferred: Advanced degree (MS/MA, PHD) in related field Certifications desired include: JNCIE, CCIE, CCDE Vendor Familiarity: Cisco, Arista, Juniper, Nokia Experience working in Operations & Engineering Experience working in Capacity Planning and Load Forecasting Experience as a Principal or in a Design role Experience working with automation, playbooks, and software scripting (Python, Ansible, and other languages) Experience working with complex data analysis Experience with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) services USD 106,700.00 - 177,900.00 per year Compensation: Compensation includes a base salary of $106,700.00 - $177,900.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.
