Position Summary:
The Account Manager is responsible for building long-term relationships with multiple customer accounts, serving as their primary point of contact throughout the lifecycle of their jobs from estimating and proposal writing to contract negotiations and project execution.
In addition to individual responsibilities, this position works in collaboration with a team that includes branch and field personnel, and coordinates with owners, GCs, and other trades on the jobsite. Successful Account Managers excel at communication, problem-solving, and making decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
GeneralFollow best practices in environmental health and safety to prevent incidents and ensure compliance with applicable regulations, company policy, and customer expectationsParticipate in the company Continuous Improvement ProcessIdentify new customers and opportunities through networking and prospectingDevelop and maintain assigned customer relationships, securing a pipeline of repeat businessDevelop sales strategies for target customers and bid strategies for target jobsWork with the home office as needed to obtain customer prequalificationsEstimating
Solicit bid packages for qualified opportunities, including procuring drawings and specificationsInterpret specifications and perform material take-offs from construction drawings or job walksSummarize takeoffs and note job conditions that may affect labor productivityAttend pre-bid meetings to clarify scope, specifications, and jobsite conditionsPrepare cost estimates utilizing estimating software (ie. MIKE or Navisworks)Solicit material and subcontract pricing from vendors to incorporate into the estimateRequest bonds and bond pricing from the corporate office when neededPrepare project schedules when required by a specification or company policyFollow company policy for pre-bid review and go/no-go decisions before bidding high risk jobsPrepare and submit proposalsTrack & understand labor productivity, material costs, direct and indirect costs, taxes, and margin standards to ensure accurate estimatesSubmit contract documents to home office for review and commentPrepare exception letters, negotiate changes to contract language, and ensure that all signed contracts comply with company policyProject Management
Upon award of subcontracts, prepare the Material Requirements and Foreman's Work Order, attend preconstruction meetings, and perform other relevant preconstruction planningWith the assistance of the Construction Manager, formulate job control set up and cost codesPrepare all job-related information for entry into the accounting systemManage project schedules, labor productivity, material costs, and margins to ensure that jobs are profitable and meet customer commitments for schedule and qualityPerform job control functions including reverse takeoffs and enter data into E1Prepare material and application submittal when required by contract conditions, or when necessary to clear up ambiguous specifications or when otherwise desirableManage change orders and take actions to prevent or mitigate potential construction claimsMaintain regular communication with the customer POC regarding potential impactsPrepare, or oversee admin preparing, accurate invoices and timely collection of receivablesSkills and Abilities:
Able to collaborate effectively with different personality typesSelf-motivated and able to plan and prioritize work tasksGood at problem-solving and making decisions in a fast-paced environmentProficient with Microsoft Excel, estimating software, and other relevant software toolsAble to interpret drawings, architectural/mechanical plans, and flow diagramsEducation/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree, or equivalent management experience in construction or the military, preferredDemonstrated experience with estimating / construction management (required number of years varies by field office)Professional Certifications and experience in relevant construction specialty, preferredTravel:
This position involves frequent travel within the assigned territory.Valid driver's license and safe driving record required.
