POSITION SUMMARY & HIGHLIGHTS
Responsible for driving tractor trailer or straight truck (CDL) locally and out of town, to deliver pet food and supplies to veterinarian, pet and farm channels. Makes multiple stops per day and may unload product from truck for delivery inside customer facilities. This position operates alone and is expected to be able to perform all aspects of the job as described below. Most drivers are scheduled for 4-day work weeks, and are off on weekends.
STARTING WAGES
Class A:
$26.50 - $30.00 per hour based on experience
Class B:
$22.00 - $26.00 per hour based on experience
***Sign on Bonus: $1,000.00 paid out after successfully working 3 months, AND $1,000.00
paid out after successfully working 9 months***
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform pre/post trip vehicle inspections. Complete necessary paper/computer work. Clean out truck, including sweeping, stacking pallets, product returns and damage.Safely and efficiently transport products from warehouse/dock location to customer delivery location.Perform deliveries at each stop, completing necessary delivery paperwork or utilizing company-provided mobile device and interacting with customers. Unload products from the truck using available material handling equipment (pallet jack, hand cart, etc).Maintain a valid driver’s license for required vehicle type. Must meet the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and medical requirements and possess a valid medical card. Understand and adhere to all DOT and company regulations regarding safe driving practices, hours of service requirements and drug testing protocols.Maintain regular and punctual attendance. Work extended hours, as required by operational needs.Possess excellent customer service skills, communication skills and be courteous and responsive to customer needs.Promote a safe work environment by following facility and company safety guidelines. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.Safely operate and become certified in use of pallet jack or other material handling equipment, to unload or load palletized products.QUALIFICATIONS1 or more years related delivery driving experience, preferred.Ability to count and perform basic math.Should be able to conduct at least one overnight route per week as business needs necessitate. Lodging and meal allowance provided by the company.Ability to safely lift and move up to 50 pounds, and push/pull up to 175 pounds (using a hand cart).Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.Position requires a high level of concentration when operating a motor vehicle.WORKING CONDITIONS
Working and driving in all weather conditions including rain, snow, sleet, hot, humid, cold. Walking surfaces may be uneven and/or slippery with trip hazards present including curbs, potholes, etc.Must be able to wear all job appropriate personal protective equipment (i.e., gloves, safety vests, glasses, safety shoes, etc.).This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned from time to time.
