Caterpillar Inc. seeks Embedded SW Sr Engineer at its facility located at 2427 E Engine Drive, Chillicothe, IL 61523.
Job Description:
Utilize digital means technology to extract data from our machines and engines and transform it into valuable recommendations or "insights," to help customers make better, more informed decisions and help Caterpillar make robust products with the lowest total ownership cost. Generate and process large amounts of data from sensors, onboard models, and control algorithms in real-time creating real-world machine usage information. Integrate mechanical and electronic control systems, associated control algorithms and on-board information systems generate, store, and transmit this critical machine information that is highly useful for product development and product improvement. Conceive and provide practical embedded software designs using complex technical principles. Create concepts and directing the design and development of complex software engineering projects. Define product requirements, performs requirements decomposition, prepare concept, design, development, and feasibility studies of complex software engineering projects. Delegate portions of the project to other engineers and leads and coordinates the design, analysis, and software development effort. Conduct technical evaluations of major systems on competitive products. Develop and maintain feature and system architecture, with attention to configuration management, version control and lifecycle management of the software. Coordinate software feature tests with prove design and prototype build up and test areas. Provide guidance to other engineers responsible for portions of the product project to ensure development schedules are met. Evaluate, define, and resolve design problems. Utilize technical expertise and product knowledge to play the leadership role in the problem resolution process when interfacing with Test and Evaluation, Service, Plant personnel, suppliers, and consultants. Prepare design concepts and develop unique product design features the Company often patents to gain competitive advantage. Telecommuting: 2 days/week.
Requirements : This position requires a Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field plus five (5) years of experience as a Software Engineer or related occupation. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field plus two (2) years of experience as a Software Engineer or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Utilizing Matlab, Simulink, and Stateflow to generate embedded software; (2) Employing technologies such as Git and Ivy to version control embedded software; (3) Applying AUTOSAR to generate atomic components; (4) Integrating scripting languages such as Python to automate processes; and (5) Installing CANape to test and validate embedded software on electronic control modules.
