Job Summary:The Department of Biochemistry is seeking an Accountant II to enhance its administrative team. This role is vital for ensuring operational excellence in the management of gift funds and related initiatives.
The Accountant II will oversee the development and ongoing refinement of complex financial statements and reports, prepare and analyze financial data, identify trends and discrepancies, and offer strategic recommendations to support informed decision-making.
The Accountant II will play a key role in monitoring and enhancing the integrity of automated financial systems, establishing and maintaining internal controls, overseeing complex financial transactions, ensuring alignment with university, Foundation, and state policies and regulatory standards. This position is anticipated to play a key role in transitioning and integrating Biochemistry's gift funds and related initiatives in accordance with UW's Administrative Transformation Program (ATP).
The Accountant II will manage funds from donation to expenditure to forecast, providing financial guidance to leadership and staff, and fostering collaboration across the administrative team. As such, the Accountant II will serve as a key contributor to effective resource allocation that supports the department's goals and internal initiatives.Responsibilities:Performs advanced accounting duties following generally accepted accounting principles and procedures. Prepares and reviews financial reports and assists with budgeting. Ensures the accurate recording and reporting of the business unit's financial transactions.15% Organizes, prepares, and updates financial statements, monthly and year-end journal entries, accounts, ledgers, and reports for various financial needs within an automated financial system to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions15% Prepares and analyzes financial data, reports and records, identifies discrepancies, investigates, recommends, and implements solutions as needed20% Develops and maintains automated financial systems, recommending controls to ensure system reliability and data integrity15% Assists with accounting and reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and reports15% Provides and prepares budgets and projections based on existing data and established policies and procedures10% Answers questions and provides accounting related information to internal and external stakeholders according to established policies and procedures10% Prepares and/or approves financial transactions and payments

$68,000 ANNUAL (12 months)Depending on QualificationsThe minimum starting salary for this position is $68,000 but, final salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
